NFL Trade Rumors: Making a Trade Would Only Bring Eagles More Scrutiny

Eric BowmanOct 17, 2011

The Philadelphia Eagles finally ended their losing streak with a 20-13 win over the Washington Redskins on Sunday, but as the trade deadline approaches the Eagles need to be cautious.

Andy Reid spoke with reporters and he said that the Eagles have been taking phone calls. Per Philly.com:

"

"Everybody is calling everybody right now," Reid said. "To tell you that we haven't talked to anybody, I can't tell you that."

Listening to offers is one thing, but actually pulling the trigger on a deal may not go over so well for Philadelphia.

The last thing the Eagles need right now is more scrutiny from not just local media but the national media as well.

As most of you know by now, the Eagles brought in a bevy of top free agents in the shortened offseason, and it caused quite the stir among NFL fans.

Folks were calling them easy Super Bowl favorites, and one of the Eagles players even dubbed them the "Dream Team."

After losing four games in a row, it appeared as though Philadelphia became the "only in your dreams" team.

The Eagles picked up a much-needed win this past Sunday against a division opponent, and now that they're headed to their bye, one would think things are looking up for Philadelphia.

This is exactly why the Eagles don't need to rush into a trade right before Tuesday's 4:00 p.m. deadline.

Sure, the Eagles have problems on both sides of the ball (mainly the defense) that need fixing, but the best thing for the Eagles to do right now is to take time off and let the media forget about Philadelphia for a while.

There's plenty to talk about in the NFL, especially since the trade deadline in only a day away. Should the Eagles make any moves then they will certainly be heavily scrutinized by everyone, and that's something the team morale doesn't need right now.

With Asante Samuel, Nnamdi Asomugha and Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie, the Eagles could move one of these talented corners to improve other positions, but if the move doesn't pan out then things won't go over so well in Philadelphia.

The Eagles are fine with how they are today, and I believe they'll stay that way and avoid making any moves at the trade deadline.

There's no denying that Philadelphia is a very talented team, and they are still capable of winning their division.

Making a trade right now will only place more pressure on a team that failed to live up to the preseason hype. It wouldn't be wise to be hyped up again when they could easily just lay low and slowly but surely climb out of the hole they're in.
