Mark Sanchez and the NFL's Worst Starting QBs
Do you think the New York Jets would be a better football team without Mark Sanchez?
Don't worry, you're not alone.
The third-year pro has drawn a ton of criticism so far this year and many have blamed him for the Jets' lack of offensive production.
It has gotten so bad that many even consider him one of the worst starting quarterbacks in the league.
Unfortunately, he's making it tough to defend him.
Here is a list that no signal-caller wants to be on right now: the worst starting QBs in football.
1. Sam Bradford, Rams
1 of 6This one is tough, but Bradford is having a poor year in 2011.
The Rams are really bad everywhere on the field, Bradford has no true No. 1 receiver (they just traded for Brandon Lloyd but that isn't going to work out like they hope) and they've battled injuries all year.
Still, the second-year quarterback is completing 52 percent of his passes and has only three touchdown passes on the year.
He's been sacked a league-high 21 times already and the departure of former offensive coordinator Pat Shurmur is a real problem.
The Rams better hope this doesn't become a lingering issue for Bradford.
2. Blaine Gabbert, Jaguars
2 of 6Another tough one to categorize, but there are only 32 starting quarterbacks in the NFL and I can't be nice to all of them.
Gabbert is a rookie quarterback on a bad football team. He wasn't ready to start but his coach went a bit crazy and dug the youngster a hole.
Playing quarterback in the NFL is more than just touchdowns and interceptions (Gabbert has four TDs and two INTs).
His offense is stagnant, he's completing less than 50 percent of his passes and his team is losing.
It is not all his fault, but he wasn't ready for this gig and therefore gets the benefit of the doubt as not being No. 1.
3. Rex Grossman, Redskins
3 of 6Rex Grossman is who we thought he was. I'm done letting him off the hook and the Shanahans should be too.
Grossman has been hidden by a defense with more talent than most expected and a pair of weird circumstantial wins.
He's now completing only 55 percent of his passes, has thrown six touchdowns to nine interceptions and will drive his coaches crazy sooner than later.
Everything is okay when a team is winning, but Rexy is one of those quarterbacks who knows how to lose.
4. Donovan McNabb, Vikings
4 of 6I don't care that McNabb is completing 60 percent of his passes, has a quarterback rating of 82.9 or has two more touchdowns than interceptions (ratio of 4-to-2); he is holding this team back.
The Vikings are 1-5 on the season and they cannot do much of anything in the passing game.
If not for Adrian Peterson and the few times they get the ball in Percy Harvin's hands, this team would be winless.
McNabb is a veteran quarterback who should doing more to help this team.
5. Mark Sanchez, Jets
5 of 6The young quarterback has taken this team to two AFC Championship Games but has yet to win one.
He's flashed at times, but he's also extremely inconsistent.
The Jets have asked Sanchez to throw the ball a lot more this year, but haven't done much else to help in the running game.
Teams do not play the Jets honest and it causes problems for Sanchez. He should be better in his third year, but the Jets have also never asked this much from him.
It is tough to defend him and it is tough to blame him.
Plain and simple, Sanchez needs to play better.
Honorable Mention
6 of 6It is Kevin Kolb's first year starting at QB for his team, but he's still only 1-4. He's flashed at times, but has five touchdowns, six interceptions and is completing less than 60 percent of his passes.
Kyle Orton is not starting as of right now (he could be by tomorrow's deadline) but he wasn't doing very much to help the Broncos either. He has the potential to be a serviceable starter, but he needs more to work with than what the Denver had to offer.
Finally, Chad Henne was a starter prior to being hurt. If he thinks his 217 yards per game, four touchdowns, four interceptions, 57 percent completion rate and 0-4 start is going to earn him his job back next season then he's crazy.
