Everything CC Sabathia: News, Updates, and Rumors

The CC Sabathia Sweepstakes is heating up as the Winter Meetings approach. You hear the Yankees aren’t his No. 1 team, the Red Sox will be meeting with him, his wife wants him in San Francisco, and more.

As a fan...it really kills me that we have to wait so long on his decision. It’s understandable, though, as this will change his life, along with the rest of his family and friends. You would think he would accept the Yankees $140 million offer by now. Does that mean he isn’t coming to New York?

The Red Sox will also be meeting with CC over the next few days. Many believe that this is just to drive up the price or to make it a more competitive market, but who knows. I honestly think this is just to get the Yanks angry, and that the Sox aren’t seriously interested in signing him.

Cashman met with Scott Boras and Mark Teixeira yesterday to talk about several of the free agents he represents (Lowe, Tex, Manny, Perez). Now he has scheduled a meeting with the Yanks' No. 1 priority, Sabathia.

The time of the meeting isn’t clear, but people think it will take place in Las Vegas at the Winter Meetings. The idea is that Cashman might be able to gauge the pitcher’s interest and persuade him to join the club.

Let the games begin!

From the LoHud Yankees Blog:

"

Brian Cashman will meet with CC Sabathia to try and sign the lefty before the Winter Meetings. Meanwhile, A.J. Burnett is dancing with the Braves and Cashman met with Scott Boras.

Now the latest news is that the Red Sox want to meet with CC. Of course they do, as that will torture the Yankees. They’ll try and get Sabathia to wait in the hopes that one of the West Coast teams will get up the courage to make him an offer. There is little chance Boston would actually want to sign Sabathia.

Cashman would try the same thing to Theo Epstein if the roles were reversed. It’s what these guys do.

Yankees general manager Brian Cashman met Thursday with agent Scott Boras and planned to get together this weekend with free-agent pitcher CC Sabathia ahead of the winter meetings.

Cashman’s meeting with Boras and intention to meet with Sabathia were disclosed by separate baseball officials who spoke on condition of anonymity because the Yankees did not announce Cashman’s plans.

Rotoworld.com reports:

Yankees general manager Brian Cashman plans to meet face-to-face with CC Sabathia at the winter meetings, sources told FOXSports.com’s Ken Rosenthal.

Unless they’re standing up, in which case it’d be face-to-chest. At $140 million over six years, the Yankees are believed to have by far the highest offer out to Sabathia.
A friend of CC Sabathia’s told SI.com that the free agent has four offers on the table, with two coming from mystery teams.
The Yankees and Brewers are the only teams known to have made offers. The Angels, Giants, Dodgers are believed to have some interest, but it’s possible none of them have made offers yet. The Red Sox are reportedly planning to meet with Sabathia at the winter meetings next week, but it’s considered unlikely that they’ll put in a bid to rival the Yankees’ six-year, $140 million package.
