Jim Harbaugh Fight Video: Both Coaches To Blame for Silly Incident

Tim KeeneyOct 16, 2011

Sunday's matchup between the San Francisco 49ers and Detroit Lions was an example of great football and what can be great about the NFL week in and week out.

Then the postgame fiasco happened, and all the details of the fantastic game were forgotten.

Niners coach Jim Harbaugh went skipping and hopping across the field like a 9-year-old girl, and Lions coach Jim Schwartz responded, well, like a 9-year-old girl.

There's been a lot of talk about who's fault this little postgame fight was, but in all truth, it was both of their faults.

First of all, Harbaugh needs to act like he's won a game before. I realize that it was a huge victory on the road against a previously undefeated Lions team.

Really, I get it. It was a huge victory. His team, and his defense in particular, played absolutely fantastic. The game came down to the end and he was excited they came out alive.

But don't go skipping around, pushing everyone and yelling in everyone's face. Give a few fist-pumps, go and shake Schwartz's hand and go crazy in the locker room with your team.

You don't see Super Bowl-caliber coaches acting like Harbaugh did after this game. You just don't.

And he can't let it happen again. It showed some serious classlessness on his part, and it's not the first time something like this happened.

Just ask Pete Carroll.

On the other side of the field, I realize Schwartz was upset both about losing the game and about how Harbaugh handled himself.

But he needs to be the bigger man and walk away. If he really needed to say something, he should have said it to the press behind Harbaugh's back like everyone else.

OK, that's not exactly what he should have done, but he certainly shouldn't have gone after Harbaugh like he did. It was incredibly childish.

A grown man needs to control his emotions better than that.

So you have two terrific teams that fought hard until the very end in what was an amazing game.

And their coaches topped it all off with a lack of class and an excess of childish behavior.

But, no matter how you feel about, here's a look at the video if you haven't seen it.
