Jim Harbaugh Fight: Confrontation Leaves Fans Hoping for Lions vs 49ers Rematch

Kyle VassaloOct 16, 2011

The San Francisco 49ers' monster win over the previously undefeated Detroit Lions was immediately overshadowed by the post-game confrontation between Jim Schwartz and Jim Harbaugh.

Both are passionate guys and had to be separated when Schwartz took offense to Harbaugh's enthusiasm after the game. While some will argue this behavior is unacceptable and others will contend that this sort of passion inspires the locker room, everyone can agree that it leaves us wanting to see these teams meet again.

With both teams sitting on a 5-1 record, a postseason rematch certainly isn't out of the question. The 49ers are running away with the NFC West, and there is a great chance the Lions end up stealing one of the Wild Card spots.

This Twitpic by @ArashMarkazi pretty much says it all. Be sure to take note of how heated Schwartz is, how thrown off Harbaugh is and how hilarious Anthony Davis thinks the situation is.

This was a marquee matchup this week, and it certainly didn't disappoint. Though it got chippy during the game, nothing could have prepared us for the Schwartz' episode.

Harbaugh is no stranger to post-game confrontations. While he was the head coach of Standford, Harbaugh torched USC and proceeded to throw unnecessarily in the fourth quarter. Pete Carroll didn't appreciate his antics and thus, the famous, "What's your deal?" exchange was born.

Last week, Harbaugh's 49ers torched the Buccaneers 48-3. It's unfair to assume he likes embarrassing other teams, but he's not afraid to exert his dominance, and his demeanor can appear arrogant. Obviously that was unpopular with Schwartz.

Their exchange has sparked an unforeseen rivalry between the two teams. If the two see each other again this season, there is going to be a little extra something going into the game, as if playoff football wasn't intense enough.

Harbaugh's enthusiasm is infectious. He has his team rolling, and Schwartz can't be disappointed with his 5-1 start to the season. The coaches may eventually apologize, but this fight will be a key storyline should the teams meet again this season and beyond.
