WWE: Nostradamus Makes His Calls About the Next 6 Months
You know, I love Nostradamus. The man was a hell of a poet.
A lot of people believe that, within the over 900-plus series of quatrains he published, the man from Saint-Rémy-de-Provence, France had a unique gift of prognostication.
Saying he predicted everything from the rise of Napoleon and Hitler to the events of September 11th and infamous Napoleonic Wars, his quatrains were very open ended.
That left me curious if his writings could be applied to the WWE for the next half a year. I write articles about Professional Wrestling and critique poetry for enjoyment. I was running through some last night and came across some that I felt were oddly applicable.
Suffering through a cold and with an excuse to do nothing today in the way of chores (bless Mrs. Schaefer), I decided to see if I could find some meaning in the famous French Poet, Astrologer, Doctor, Adviser, and Fortune Teller.
For the benefit of those with short attention spans (such as myself), I'll avoid being overly analytical in this article.
I should note this article is entirely meant for fun and to be slightly silly, with no "portends" about the WWE and the Creative Teams meaningfully implied. They wouldn't know how to carry through a good thing anyway.
Factions Will Develop, Starting with R-Truth!
1 of 6Century I, Quatrain 45:
A founder of sects, much trouble for the accuser:
A beast in the theatre prepares the scene and plot.
The author ennobled by acts of older times;
The world is confused by schismatic sects
This is as good a place to start. It's pretty clear that Nostradamus is telling us R-Truth (the accuser) will lead some sort of stable, the first line makes that plainly clear. Line 2 indicates that Vince McMahon has wanted to do this for some time!
If such a thing is to be believed, then it will be possibly modeled after the NWO or maybe the Nation of Domination. As these things usually go, however, the WWE will wind up confusing and possibly frustrating it's audience before it runs it's course.
Punk Will Be Blackmailed Only to Turn on His Extortionist.
2 of 6Century II, Quatrain 36:
The letters of the great Prophet will be seized,
They will come to fall into the hands of the tyrant:
His enterprise will be to deceive his King,
But his extortions will very soon trouble him.
Century IV, Quatrain 24:
Beneath the holy earth of a soul the faint voice heard,
Human flame seen to shine as divine:
It will cause the earth to be stained with the blood of the monks,
And to destroy the holy temples for the impure ones
It seems that, in some form, CM Punk will be blackmailed, possibly by Vince or John Laurinaitis, into going against Triple H, Randy Orton, or even John Cena.
Something will cause the Second City Saint, the one who says he will change the WWE, to fall to the dark side, like Shawn Michaels working for JBL.
But perhaps something doesn't sit right with Punk, causing him to go against the one blackmailing him while causing the holder of the apparently infamous information a lot of trouble.
Perhaps it may evolve as far as causing the downfall of Punk and the extortionist.
The second quatrain gives a bit more insight. The fans of Punk, the monks (Punk Monks?), will see their savior as being buried by the storyline. Perhaps he may return to his old Intro music by Killswitch Engaged called "This Fire Burns".
Ultimately, laying waste to everything at the behest of those holding power over him and compelling him to go against everything he has stood for.
Edge Will Return and Cause Christian Trouble by Wrestlemania 28!
3 of 6Century II, Quatrain 67
The blond one will come to compromise the fork-nosed one
Through the duel and will chase him out:
The exiles within he will have restored,
Committing the strongest to the marine places.
It seems pretty much like common sense. Edge will return and cause Christian grief in some form.
The two will feud and cause Christian enough problems that he will need to leave the WWE for a spell. Edge will return from his "exile" for a time.
The "marine places" is clearly a reference to Miami. St. Louis also fits this bill, being on the Mississippi River, but it seems more appropriate given the grander stage of Wrestlemania.
Cody Rhodes and Ted DiBiase: The "A" Feud of Next Year?
4 of 6Century II, Quatrain 80
After the conflict by the eloquence of the wounded one
For a short time a soft rest is contrived:
The great ones are not to be allowed deliverance at all:
They are restored by the enemies at the proper time.
Century III, Quatrain 98
Two royal brothers will wage war so fierily
That between them the war will be so mortal
That both will occupy the strong places:
Their great quarrel will fill realm and life.
As you can guess, Cody Rhodes is the wounded one, both psychologically and physically as seen by the mask he wears. Apparently, he will put another WWE star, who probably needs a rest, on the shelf for a little bit as "a soft rest" indicates a storyline injury.
Sheamus and Orton, the great ones, will suffer at that hands of Rhodes in some form. The last line in the first Quatrain indicates possibly Ted DiBiase finally ending Rhodes reign of terror.
Remember, DiBiase was once a member of Legacy and did feud with Orton for a time, albeit briefly.
The feud will apparently turn very bitter, but be so well done as to elevate both men in the eyes in the fans, filling them with such hope as to become the annual "Hot Summer Angle" we've come to expect every year.
Vince Will Turn Face, Feud with Laurinaitis!
5 of 6Century III, Quatrain 72
The good old man buried quite alive,
Near the great river through false suspicion:
The new old man ennobled by riches,
Captured on the road all his gold for ransom.
Century IV, Quatrain 45
Through conflict a King will abandon his realm:
The greatest chief will fail in time of need:
Dead, ruined few will escape it,
All cut up, one will be a witness to it.
It is really easy to see the prognosticator from France was saying here. Vince, perhaps in a bit of senility or through some sort of good deed, will turn face.
Possibly, he will be taken out of power again, possibly by the time of the Royal Rumble.
(Though it's only rumor, St. Louis is rumored to be in the lead to host the 2012 edition of the Royal Rumble, which is situated on the Mississippi River).
Whatever accusations are thrown against will indeed by untrue. Regardless, the new old man, probably Laurinaitis will become blind to the threats around him only to be taken down possibly by Vince or an invigorated Triple H.
In turn, the "new old man" maybe blackballed in some form to step down from his newly won position. It seems the corporate storyline is far from played out.
The second Quatrain seems to indicate a betrayal of some sort that will cause Vince to leave the WWE again. The WWE Universe will be through another reign of terror, only for one to see the motivations behind it. Possibly Triple H?
Conclusion
6 of 6It should be said again that good poetry and pose is highly open ended, and can mean a lot to each individual.
That said, you can make any writing mean anything if you take the time to hash it out.
Either way, for a man born over 500 years ago, Nostradamus had quite the insider perspective into today's angles.
He was a "smart" man, in a lot of ways.
Thanks for reading! As always, what do you think? Any particular predictions for the next six months?
