Fantasy Football Week 6: Reggie Wayne and 5 Players Sure to Cost You a Win
Whether we like it or not, our stud fantasy players simply aren't going to produce every single week. That even goes for guys like New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady, Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson and Detroit Lions wide receiver Calvin Johnson.
It simply isn't possible to go an entire season without having an off game. No matter how good your fantasy team is, there's always going to be one or two weeks where your players just don't live up to their lofty expectations.
With that in mind, there are several high-profile players that will have to contend with difficult matchups or circumstances this weekend. Just so you don't feel blindsided if they fail to perform, here are five players that will cost you a win in Week 6.
Matt Schaub: QB, Houston Texans
1 of 5Although Houston Texans quarterback Matt Schaub hasn't exactly set the world on fire this season, he has been a very consistent producer, with 1,377 yards and nine touchdowns through five games. Due to a myriad of variables, however, he should be in for a rough go this weekend.
With star wide receiver Andre Johnson out for the second consecutive week, it is likely to take a toll on Schaub's numbers. He did throw for over 400 yards and two touchdowns without him last week, but that seems like more of an aberration than anything.
The Baltimore Ravens' dominant defense shouldn't have much of an issue holding Kevin Walter and Jacoby Jones in check, so that leaves only tight ends Owen Daniels and Joel Dreessen as targets for Schaub. The Oakland Raider may not have been able to contain them, but the Ravens will use a relentless pass rush severely compromise Schaub's time in the pocket.
Steven Jackson: RB, St. Louis Rams
2 of 5The 2011 season has gotten off to a terrible start for both the St. Louis Rams and their star running back Steven Jackson. The Rams are 0-4, and Jackson has just 124 rushing yards in three games, as he has been hampered by a quad injury.
Fresh off a bye week Jackson should be ready and raring to go, but he and the Rams unfortunately run into the buzzsaw that is the Green Bay Packers. The Packers are extremely stout against the run and are highly likely to build an early lead on the Rams.
With that in mind, the Rams will probably have to turn to quarterback Sam Bradford and the passing game in order to move the ball. Jackson's best opportunity to get involved will be on screens and dump-offs, but he simply isn't the pass receiver he used to be.
Brandon Marshall: WR, Miami Dolphins
3 of 5Miami Dolphins wide receiver Brandon Marshall has been a bit hit and miss this season, but he seems to be on track for a much better second year in Miami. Through four games, he has 313 receiving yards and one touchdown, although he has dropped a couple potential touchdowns already.
With quarterback Chad Henne going on injured reserve, however, Marshall will have to operate with a new signal-caller for the rest of the season. That quarterback would seem to be Matt Moore, so it will be interesting to see if he can build a good rapport with the new field general.
Regardless of whether he and Moore are on the same page, Week 6 could be rough against the New York Jets, The Jets have certainly struggled this season, but Marshall will have to contend with shutdown corner Darrelle Revis in all likelihood. Because of that, it's tough to project Marshall getting more than a few catches.
Arian Foster: RB, Houston Texans
4 of 5After missing two games with a hamstring injury, Houston Texans running back Arian Foster seems to be fully healthy and back to his dominant self. He has over 300 total yards over the past two weeks and is once again the focal point of Houston's offense.
Even so, Foster and the Texans offense as a whole is likely to struggle this weekend against the Baltimore Ravens. The Ravens are second in the league against the run and will certainly key on Foster with wide receiver Andre Johnson out of the lineup.
You can't completely discount Foster having a good game due to his effectiveness catching passes. The Baltimore's defense is in its finest form at this point and is coming off a bye which allowed them to game plan extensively against the Texans. I wouldn't expect a third straight productive game for Foster.
Reggie Wayne: WR, Indianapolis Colts
5 of 5Without quarterback Peyton Manning, the Indianapolis Colts have gone from a fantasy gold mine to a fantasy wasteland. While few Colts have had an impressive season to date, the most disappointing player has likely been ProBowl wide receiver Reggie Wayne.
As Manning's favorite target, Wayne has been one of the NFL's best and most consistent receivers for much of the past decade. He has failed to get on the same page with the likes of Kerry Collins and Curtis Painter, though, and hasn't had a truly good game since Week 1 where he picked up most of his 106 yards in garbage time against the Houston Texans.
The Colts have to contend with a stout Cincinnati Bengals defense on Sunday, so Wayne might be in for another long day. He will likely be covered by cornerback Leon Hall, who has shut down opposing receivers this season. Painter also seems to have locked in on Pierre Garcon, so Wayne's looks will likely be very limited.
