NFL Power Rankings Week 6: Which Teams Are Not as Good as Their Records?

John RozumOct 13, 2011

For a team to not be as good as their indicated record, that obviously leads us into the realm of being called "overrated."

It also, however, gives those specific teams an opportunity to prove the cynics otherwise, therefore becoming a legit contender.

With that in mind, here are three NFL franchises not as good as their record.

New York Giants (3-2)

The Giants' three wins have come against teams win a combined record of 2-12 (St. Louis, Philly, Arizona).

They lost in Week 1 on the road at Washington, who's proven to be better than advertised, and also to the then 1-3 Seattle Seahawks at home.

Injuries aside, New York is better than how they played last week, but until they actually defeat the supposed inferior teams, the Giants are going to be overrated all season.

And despite the NFC East being rather even, they're currently only better than the underachieving Eagles.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers (3-2)

The Bucs' three wins are not all that impressive, especially since they came against Minnesota (1-4), Atlanta (2-3) and Indianapolis (0-5).

The 48-3 embarrassment that was Week 5 in San Fran just proves that the Bucs have quite a ways to go if they want to contend in the NFC, as does their Week 1 loss to the Lions.

Tampa Bay has clearly underperformed this season, and with the Carolina Panthers gradually improving each week, the Bucs could very well finish third in the NFC South or even fourth if the Falcons bite them back later on.

Then again, this is also a great opportunity for Tampa to prove the skeptics wrong, but until they actually do, consider them nowhere near as good as their record.

Tennessee Titans (3-2)

The road loss at Pittsburgh proves how inconsistent one team can be when their best player gets greedy and misses all of training camp.

The Week 1 loss at Jacksonville wasn't a surprise, but upsetting Baltimore at home was.

However, the Titans then barely escaped a bad Denver team in Week 3, dominated the inferior Browns in Week 4 but didn't live up to the expectations against the Steelers in Week 5.

No one is ever going to be as good as their record by playing inconsistently, and right now Tennessee may be the roller coaster-esque team in the league.

But that doesn't mean they're good because if they were, not only would they have beaten Jacksonville and smashed the Broncos, but they would have played much better against Pittsburgh.
