Fantasy Football Week 6 Projections: 5 Big-Name Busts You Must Avoid
Sometimes the stars don't play like stars. There are a few reasons for it. Maybe they're hurt, maybe the team is trying a new system or maybe they are just in a terrible matchup.
Whatever the reason, there are some stars that just won't perform like stars this weekend, at least as it relates to fantasy. They may come through in clutch spots to help their team, but the overall numbers won't be that great.
If you have any of these players on your fantasy team, at least do this: Take a look at your roster and see if you have a backup that you trust. If not, take a look at the waiver wire and see if there are any players in good matchups.
This might be a little tough for the next several weeks, given that we are now into the season of bye weeks. Still, if you have decent alternative options, you need to at least think long and hard about leaving these guys on your bench.
Michael Vick
1 of 5I understand why fantasy owners would be extremely hesitant to leave him on the bench. Between his arm and legs, Vick accounts for a lot of yardage. There's one problem with that.
He also accounts for a lot of turnovers on his own. The Redskins have a defense that will feed off of that. Also, unless you're in a really deep league, or one that uses multiple QBs, you should have a pretty good backup on your team.
Every week, Vick is a huge-risk, huge-payoff guy. This week, look for a safer play. Better matchups await Vick.
Jahvid Best
2 of 5Considering he's currently starting in over 90 percent of ESPN leagues, I am assuming that Best's stick is high. Please correct me if I am wrong.
But here are the problems:
1) The 49ers Defend the Run Very Well
This one pretty much speaks for itself. The 49ers have one of the best rushing defenses in the NFL. Their front seven is consistently one of the best in the league. As long as they have Patrick Willis, this will be the case.
2) The Lions Pass the Ball Very Well
There are only two words needed for this one: Calvin Johnson.
3) The 49ers Have Issues Defending the Pass
They have gotten better in recent weeks, but the 49ers are still a little vulnerable against the big play. Look for Matthew Stafford and the Lions to try to exploit that early and often.
Matt Schaub
3 of 5A banged-up Schaub will not have Andre Johnson at his disposal. He'll also be going against one of the NFL's best defenses in Baltimore.
Schaub's status is still up in the air. But for now, fantasy owners would be well advised to look elsewhere for quarterback points.
DeSean Jackson
4 of 5Jackson is just like his quarterback. There is a lot of big-play potential in the Philadelphia receiver, but he's someone to leave on the bench this week.
The Washington defense has generally been good at defending receivers this year.
Jackson's not a great PPR guy, although he's not awful. His value is best as a big-play guy. Given Washington's ability to defend the pass and their ability to get to the quarterback, big plays are tough to come by.
At a deep position like receiver, leave Jackson on the bench. He's certainly not someone to have high hopes for.
Owen Daniels
5 of 5Daniels had a great week last week and is a reliable tight end. But the Baltimore defense allows next to nothing against tight ends.
Not one tight end has scored a touchdown against them and they haven't allowed 50 total yards to any of their opponent's tight ends (or tight end tandems).
It's really hard to imagine Daniels being contained that much, but a game like last week is highly unlikely.
