Fantasy Football Week 6: Big Play Performers Guaranteed To Be Point Machines

Tim DanielsOct 12, 2011

One of the best things about fantasy football is that no matter how crappy the rest of your team plays, one huge performance can put you over the top. Aaron Rodgers and Wes Welker owners will certainly attest to that through the first five weeks.

Between bye weeks and mounting injuries, there is a lot for a fantasy owner to consider in Week 6. The most important thing to remember is to never bench your superstars. Whether it be Chris Johnson or Roddy White, their slow starts will end eventually, so don't get caught with them riding the pine.

Without further ado, here are the players who will dominate fantasy football in Week 6.

Note: All projected scores are based on standard fantasy football scoring rules.

QB: Drew Brees

1 of 5

After scoring at least 20 points in each of the first three weeks, Drew Brees has scored just 27 in his last two games combined. Look for him to get back on track in an important division game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

The New Orleans Saints quarterback threw four touchdowns against Tampa Bay last season. The Bucs rank 18th against opposing fantasy quarterbacks and have recently been torched by the likes of Curtis Painter and Alex Smith.

Marques Colston should be nearly 100 percent after dealing with a collarbone injury, which will provide a big boost to the passing game. Like Tom Brady, as you give Brees more weapons he becomes exponentially more dangerous.

Prediction: 25 fantasy points

RB: Fred Jackson

2 of 5

Even though Ryan Fitzpatrick gets most of the credit for turning around the Buffalo Bills offense, Fred Jackson has been an equally important contributor so far. Jackson voiced his displeasure about not being named the starter until late in training, and has taken out that frustration on opponents.

The Coe College product is averaging 96 yards on the ground and 46 through the air, both career highs, and has five touchdowns in as many games. He also leads all fantasy running backs in scoring at 19.4 points per week.

Jackson gets another promising matchup on Sunday against a banged-up New York Giants defense. New York is the 23rd-ranked defense against RBs and were gashed by former Bill Marshawn Lynch last week. It all adds up to another huge week for Action Jackson.

Prediction: 22 fantasy points

WR: Calvin Johnson

3 of 5

Calvin Johnson isn't going to maintain his current pace and score 29 touchdowns but, with another strong matchup in Week 6, the roll isn't going to end yet. Johnson has scored at least 14 fantasy points in every week, a claim Wes Welker can't even make.

Perhaps the most amazing part of Johnson's performance is the lack of viable alternatives in the passing game. Even though Brandon Pettigrew continues to improve, Nate Burleson isn't scaring anybody on the opposite side, and Johnson keeps putting up big numbers anyway.

While San Francisco ranks 17th against fantasy wideouts, that number is aided by strong games against Cincinnati and Tampa Bay. Against Dallas and Philadelphia, more representative samples of the 49ers' ability, they gave up 74 points to WRs.

Prediction: 19 fantasy points

TE: Jimmy Graham

4 of 5

Jimmy Graham was a popular sleeper pick during preseason drafts, as many owners expected him to excel in his second season with Drew Brees. Being the top-scoring tight end through five weeks, though? Not too many people had seen that one coming.

Graham has totaled at least seven points each week, which is huge considering the lack of depth at the TE position, and has scored in double digits three straight times. Look for him to continue that streak against Tampa Bay on Sunday.

San Francisco exposed a weakness in the Bucs' defense last week, as tight ends Vernon Davis and Delanie Walker caught three touchdowns, all from within 26 yards. Graham is great red-zone target at 6'6'', 260 pounds and should find the end zone at least once.

Prediction: 13 fantasy points

K: Sebastian Janikowski

5 of 5

Taking a fantasy kicker before the final round of your draft? Major blunder. Sebastian Janikowski is the perfect example why. He could have been had in the last round of nearly every draft and is still available in 15 percent of ESPN leagues.

He's had good weeks and bad weeks, like all kickers, but his big leg and Oakland's middling offense leads to a lot of field goal opportunities. For fantasy owners in leagues that reward longer field goals, Janikowski's huge boot makes him even more valuable.

The Raiders go up against the Cleveland Browns, which rank 30th against kickers, and that should mean a double-digit Week 6 for the former Florida State Seminole. Kickers aren't going to win your matchup, but a terrible outing could certainly lose it.

Prediction: 12 fantasy points
