NFL Power Rankings Week 6: Chiefs and 3 Most Overlooked Risers

Ryan RudnanskyOct 12, 2011

Teams that start off sluggishly tend be cast aside as disappointments before the season even hits the halfway point.

However, every NFL season there are those teams that slowly but surely make their way back to respectability and before we know it they're challenging for a playoff spot.

Here are three teams that are rising after bad starts currently being overlooked.

3. Seattle Seahawks (2-3)

After losing their first two games against the San Francisco 49ers and Pittsburgh Steelers, the Seahawks found themselves in a hole from the start.

However, last year's NFC West champs have won two of their last three games since, including a 36-25 throttling of the New York Giants in Week 5.

This team's quarterback situation and secondary are still questionable, but Seattle has an emerging rookie in receiver Doug Baldwin and it's ranked ninth in opponents' rushing yards per game. There's still time for the Seahawks to make a run at the division-leading Niners.

2. Kansas City Chiefs (2-3)

After winning the AFC West in 2010, the Chiefs' first three games this season were nothing short of disastrous.

Not only did quarterback Matt Cassel look like half the quarterback he was in 2010, the team simply was playing below its potential and ended up losing star running back Jamaal Charles to injury for the season.

However, the Chiefs, a 10-win team last season, have bounced back, winning their last two games against the Minnesota Vikings and Indianapolis Colts.

Sure, the Vikings and Colts aren't exactly world-beaters this season, but it's a step in the right direction. At least the Chiefs aren't losing anymore.

1. Cincinnati Bengals (3-2)

The Bengals have certainly gained some recognition after being tabbed by many as the worst team in the NFL in the preseason, but there are still plenty of people doubting this team.

However, the Bengals are playing as a team, on offense and defense, despite their shortcomings on paper. Rookie quarterback Andy Dalton and receiver A.J. Green are showing some promise already and this team has 10 times more heart than the squad from 2010. All three of the Bengals' wins have come via fourth-quarter comebacks.

I don't think the Bengals are a playoff squad already, but they're headed in the right direction.
