Green Bay Packers or Detroit Lions: Who Loses First?
After five weeks of the NFL season, only two unbeaten teams remain. It just so happens that these two teams share a division, the NFC North.
The defending Super Bowl Champion Green Bay Packers have looked like the best team in the NFL to this point, as they've not only been winning games, but looking strong as they do so.However, the Detroit Lions aren't very far behind, despite having been far behind in a couple of their games so far this year.
Against the Vikings, Detroit was down by 20 points at halftime before they realized they were playing the equivalent of a high school team, and shut Minnesota down to the tune of allowing just three points in the second half. Pretty much the same story against the Cowboys, but make it a little after halftime and add four more points for that extra pizazz.

Projecting Every NFL Team's Starting Lineup 🔮

Rookie WRs Who Will Outplay Their Draft Value 📈
As much as I hate to admit it though, both of these teams will lose at some point in the season. The tricky part is trying to find out when and where that will take place.
Will the Packers only lose once they've locked up the number one seed and are resting players? Will the Lions fall short on one of their miracle rallies? Well, put your mind at ease, these are the questions I'm here to answer.
Detroit Lions: Let me get the ball rolling here by saying this team is pretty stacked. Matthew Stafford, Calvin Johnson, Brandon Pettigrew and even Jahvid Best when he plays up to his potential, lead a very explosive offense that's shown they can put up points in bunches.
Averaging a staggering 31.8 points per game, they rank fourth in the NFL in scoring. There's really not anything more you can say about Calvin Johnson either. The man has nine touchdowns through five games...are you serious?
But even with an offense like that, and a front seven on defense that's completely terrifying, they are bound to drop one at some point, so let's take a quick look at their schedule and see where it'll be.
Their next three games are home against the 49ers and Falcons, then a road trip to Denver before a bye week. Seems safe to say that they will remain unbeaten headed into their off week. They'll be well rested and ready to head into Chicago in Week 10 to put on a repeat performance of what we saw last night and remain in the land of the perfect.
This is where my bold prediction will come in that will make me either look like a genius or a complete fool, but their first loss will be the following week to...
The Carolina Panthers. I can feel roughly all of you clicking off this article now, but hear me out.
What's the best part of Detroit's defense? The line, right? And what's the killer of a great defensive line? A mobile quarterback. Cam Newton has shown signs of utter brilliance so far this year, and if it wasn't for the rookie interceptions he's thrown, this team could be 3-2. They've kept it close with every team they've played so far and will eventually figure out how to win a close one. The Lions will let them stick around all game, and finally Cam Newton will pull one off.
Green Bay Packers: As I said in the intro, the Packers have been the best team so far in the NFL, no questions asked.
Now don't take that to mean they've looked completely invulnerable so far, as their pass defense has been the complete antithesis of that. But much like the Lions, their offensive firepower more than makes up for whatever other shortcomings this team might have.
I could go on and on about the weapons this team has, but I'll just say that they lead the league in scoring, with 34.6 points per game and leave it at that. As we all know, that stat has been fueled by Aaron Rodgers' near perfection (1,721 yards 14 TDs and 2 INTs). That's not where the similarities end between these two however, as the Packers will lose a game also.
Realistically, we can breeze through the next three weeks, as it consists of the Rams, Vikings and a bye week. So, that's pretty much just three bye weeks. It's when they come back from that bye though, when things could get a little interesting in beautiful San Diego.
As stated above, the Packers' biggest issue has been their pass defense, which is not what you want if you're about to play the San Diego Chargers. Led by Phillip Rivers and Vincent Jackson, the Chargers passing attack is on par, or above, any team in the NFL, and could spell disaster for Green Bay. However, it's my opinion that Aaron Rodgers will put up even bigger numbers than Phillip Rivers, leading Green Bay to another victory and keeping the corks in the bottles of those aging, attention hungry, Miami Dolphins.
Two more easy wins after that, and then we get to the moment of doom...the first loss.
Week 12, Thanksgiving, in Detroit. If the first part of this article actually happens (which it obviously will), then the Lions are not going to be too happy following an embarrassing home loss to the Carolina Panthers.
Now they get center stage with the entire nation watching, as the Lions get their shot at the defending Super Bowl champion Green Bay Packers in front of a crowd that will be completely decked out in blue and silver. Detroit will be more fired up for this game than Green Bay will be, and it'll show in the intensity of the Lions' defensive line and Matthew Stafford connecting with Calvin Johnson over and over again.
Even though this game is on Thanksgiving, I'm not sure I'll have an appetite after watching it.
Thanks for reading those of you that did, and as always, make sure to tell me in the comments how dumb I am!
