Week 6 Start 'Em Sit 'Em: LeGarrette Blount And 4 Running Backs You Must Sit

John RozumOct 11, 2011

With the NFL becoming more pass-heavy, RBs are not as valuable in fantasy football as they use to be.

They're becoming far and few between in terms of usage, and it's unfortunate because having a solid ground game is what wins games.

To that end, here are four RBs you should sit this week as their matchups are too much in their favor.

Maurice Jones-Drew, (at Pittsburgh)

1 of 4

The Jaguars' may average 120 rush yards per game, but that's not going to last when their pass offense only averages 150 yards per game (ranked No. 32 in the league).

And with Jacksonville traveling to Pittsburgh this week, the Steelers are eager to keep playing well as they did against Tennessee last week.

Titans' RB Chris Johnson was held to 51 yards on 14 attempts and The Music City as a whole only gained 66 yards on 18 carries.

It's not going to be easy sitting Jones-Drew, but if you can it's the smart move as Blitzburgh will shut him down.

LeGarrett Blount, (vs New Orleans)

2 of 4

This week when the Tampa Bay Buccaneers host the New Orleans Saints, it will be the No. 16 ranked rushing offense (Tampa) against the No. 15 ranked rushing defense (New Orleans).

And although the Bucs' play much better at home than away, Drew Brees and the Saints' offense is going to be airing it out all day versus the No. 20 ranked pass defense.

Therefore, Tampa RB LeGarrette Blount will be limited again as the Bucs' will need to pass in order to keep pace with Brees and company.

He may come in useful during those short-yardage situations.

Don't expect too much from Blount because running the football won't be the answer as evidence by how San Fran shut him down.

Arian Foster, (at Baltimore)

3 of 4

With WR Andre Johnson out, the Houston Texans are going to rely more so on the ground game.

Also with Andre Johnson out, the Baltimore Ravens are going to stack the box and force the Texans to beat them via pass.

The Ravens' D ranks No. 2 against the rush and No. 9 against the pass, they're playing Houston at home, and with Ed Reed in the secondary forcing turnovers goes without saying.

Now include Texans' LB Mario Williams being out, and the Baltimore offense is going to have that much more success.

In turn, Foster gets shut-down as Houston fall behind early, thus forcing coach Gary Kubiak to throw the ball more than planned.

Felix Jones, (at New England)

4 of 4

Let's be real, if the Dallas Cowboys are going to have any success against the New England Patriots, it's going to be with Tony Romo airing it out.

RB Felix Jones will most likely gain more receiving yards than rushing.

With Miles Austin, Dez Bryant and Jason Witten against the NFL's worst pass defense, there's no reason to run the ball or try screen passes.

And the Pats' do have a somewhat respectable rush defense (rank No. 13), whereas Dallas ranks No. 26 in rushing offense.

Look for a RB that's got a matchup where he's going to get some touches, because Jones will be doing a lot of pass-blocking for Romo as he shreds the Pats' very susceptible secondary and LBs.
