Fantasy Football Week 6: Top 10 Touchdown Targets You Must Play
Having reliable touchdown targets in fantasy football is the best way to guarantee yourself a solid chance to win every week.
Even if certain players don’t put up monster stats in other departments, a handful of touchdowns will make them completely worth a start that week for your squad.
After five weeks of NFL action, we have a very clear idea of which players have a nose for the end zone, those who simply pads their stats but won’t find pay dirt and guys who don’t really do much of anything for fantasy purposes.
Without counting quarterbacks, who should be getting you multiple touchdowns on a weekly basis unless you are doing something drastically wrong, let’s take a look at the top touchdown targets for Week 6.
10. BenJarvus Green-Ellis
1 of 10The ‘ground and pound’ back for the Patriots had a great game against the weak New York Jets run defense.
It looked like he might lose his job to Stevan Ridley after he had a monster game against the Raiders, but he rebounded strong with a 27-carry, 136-yard and two-touchdown performance.
"The Law Firm" has five touchdowns on the ground through five games and is always a threat to score in the Patriots’ offense.
9. Ray Rice
2 of 10Rice is coming off a bye week and should be feeling refreshed.
He has four touchdowns this season and can score in a variety of ways. He has two through the air and two by ground in just four games this season.
Rice is always a threat to score on the field and should put up good numbers this week against Houston.
8. Miles Austin
3 of 10Austin is returning from injury this week and will be the top target for Tony Romo against the Patriots.
The Pats’ defense is godawful and their secondary is especially bad. I expect Romo to look for Austin early and often, and it would not surprise me to see him score at least two touchdowns.
Miles already has four in just two games played.
7. Fred Jackson
4 of 10Jackson has scored in every game but the opener, but made up for that when he went off for two touchdowns in Week 2 against the Raiders.
Buffalo has a tough matchup against the Giants, but they look legitimate and Jackson is a big reason for their turnaround.
He is averaging 5.3 yards per carry and getting close to 20 touches a game, a big reason why he is such a huge scoring threat.
6. Wes Welker
5 of 10The stats that Welker has through five games are just mind-blowing.
He has 45 receptions for 740 yards and five touchdowns.
In just five games.
That is an average season for a wide receiver in this league for an entire season. With Welker getting so many targets, he’s almost always a threat to score, and the fact that he contributes on punt and kick returns as well means there are tons of opportunities for him to find pay dirt.
5. Cam Newton
6 of 10I know I said I wouldn’t use quarterbacks on this list, but Cam Newton is a special player.
He has five rushing touchdowns already this season and is pretty much the goal line back for Carolina.
DeAngelo Williams ripped off a huge run this week to score the first rushing TD not by Newton this season for the team.
Newton is a must-start in all fantasy formats because of his dual ability to both rush and pass for scores.
4. Rob Gronkowski
7 of 10When you are Tom Brady’s favorite red zone target, you are going to be ranked high on a touchdown threat list.
The Jets and Oakland both keyed in on the Gronk to stop him, but Tom Brady burned both of those teams in other ways. Look for him to face more single coverage in the end zone going forward.
I expect the Gronk to certainly grab another touchdown this week after not scoring for two straight.
3. Adrian Peterson
8 of 10"All Day" Adrian Peterson is still the best back in football.
He has six touchdowns through five games and had a monster game in the Vikings first win of the season against Arizona.
AP ran for three touchdowns to sweeten his 129 rushing yards, and I expect Minnesota to stick to the game plan that got them an easy win over the Cardinals going forward.
2. LeSean McCoy
9 of 10For all of the Eagles and Michael Vick’s faults, LeSean McCoy is still doing his part to help the team.
McCoy has five touchdowns on the ground and two receiving scores, making him a versatile back and one of the only consistent players in the offense.
The guy is simply a stat sheet stuffer and will get a ton of touches every game he takes part in.
I fully expect another score or two from him on Sunday when the Eagles take on the Redskins.
1. Calvin Johnson
10 of 10Megatron has eight touchdowns through four games and might add a couple more tonight as the Lions take on the Bears during Monday Night Football.
This guy can simply play and is easily the best No. 1 wide receiver in all of football right now.
Matthew Stafford and Johnson have developed an incredible rapport and opposing teams know they are going to throw to him, but simply cannot stop it.
Look for Johnson to lead the league in touchdowns all season long, and I can see him potentially challenging Randy Moss’ NFL record.
