Fantasy Football Rankings Week 6: Matt Moore and the 3 Worst QBs

Andrea HangstOct 10, 2011

A quarterback change is not a siren call to fantasy football GMs to add the new starter to their personal teams, so those of you with stars in your eyes about the Miami Dolphins' Matt Moore need to think more realistically.

The Dolphins need a wholesale revitalization of their offense before any players on that team become viable fantasy starters, and that includes wide receiver Brandon Marshall now that Chad Henne is out for the season with a shoulder injury.

There's no point, at this time, to even considering adding Matt Moore to your roster, let alone starting him. Stay away from him until he proves himself on the field, if that day even comes.

A more proven commodity, New York Jets quarterback Mark Sanchez is also a terrible fantasy starter for Week 6 and for any week that follows. That he's owned in 64 percent of Yahoo! leagues and ostensibly starts for more than a few teams is baffling this far into the season.

His eight touchdowns on the year are augmented by five interceptions and four lost fumbles, and, as the team finally gets away from their ill-conceived pass-first offense back to the running team they were meant to be, his attempts and total yardage numbers will continue to decline.

Regardless of the matchup, Sanchez is slipping to an at-best non-starting QB2. As long as the Jets continue to run the ball to make up for their other offensive deficiencies, there's no good reason to start Sanchez unless you've found yourself unprepared for your starter's bye week.

While Houston Texans quarterback Matt Schaub remains a fairly safe choice as a fantasy starting quarterback, his odds for a successful outing in Week 6 against the Baltimore Ravens are low.

Without receiver Andre Johnson, Schaub looked a bit lost against the Oakland Raiders in Week 5, and that won't likely improve when he travels to Baltimore this Sunday.

Against the Raiders, he went 24-of-51, for 416 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions. He also lost a fumble, had seven passes tipped and failed to get the team in the end zone in two out of three red zone appearances. This inconsistent play could easily resurface against a Baltimore defensive unit that is far superior than that of the Raiders.

I fully understand that, especially in 10-team leagues, Schaub is likely your starter because you sacrificed a sure-thing fantasy quarterback for top-shelf running backs and wide receivers, and there are few options should you bench him.

But, if sitting Schaub on Sunday is a risk you're willing to take, Raiders quarterback Jason Campbell (owned in just 29 percent of Yahoo! leagues) has an intriguing Week 6 matchup against the Browns and may just make for a better option.
