WrestleMania Coming To Atlanta?

Micheal RobinsonDec 3, 2008

Rumors have been swirling as to where the next few Wrestlemania's will be held after WrestleMania 25 in Houston.  Recently, Wrestlemania was held for the first time ever in a Southeastern location in the United States.

Some say that Wrestlemania will take place in Arizona, others say Las Vegas or London.

Back in the late 80's and the 90's, WCW dominated the Atlanta area.  WWE just stayed away from the whole area until 1999, when they sold out Raw in the Georgia Dome for an October 11 show that was also a record fastest selling sellout ever for a WWE show in North America only to be later broken by WrestleMania 17.

The Georgia dome also held 35,372 that night, a number unheard of for the Raw brand.

I have been part of many WWE shows.  Nearly every show that has crossed the state line of Georgia, I have been there and it is always packed.  Now I realize that other states and cities can compete, but I just see way more positives then negatives when it comes to hosting a Wrestlemania in Atlanta.

I recently spoke with a Georgia Dome official and he told me that they could sit nearly 83-86 thousand for a show for such nature as WrestleMania but that depends on the stage, camera and lighting equipment as well.

The owner of the Atlanta Falcons Arthur Blank recently spent millions on refurbished seats that are all red and black now replacing the formal teal seats.  Also, the outside of the dome was repainted Falcons colors and looks more appealing then before.

The WWE could do a lot of lighting work on the white colored top of the Georgia Dome during the show as well as lights going up the side of the dome.

There is no doubt that if an event of this magnitude came to the Georgia Dome, I don't see why it wouldn't be a huge success.

I broke the bank last year and traveled to Wrestlemania 24 in Orlando and it was everything I could ever ask for as a wrestling fan.  But, the more I think about it, this is something that would be icing on the cake.  Having the biggest event in wrestling in my back yard.

WWE pleased me back in 2002 when they decided to host the Royal Rumble at the Philips Arena, I hope they do the same again.  Only time will tell, but the stage is set.
