Pierre Garcon: Why Colts WR Is Fantasy Football's Most Infuriating WR

For the second consecutive week Indianapolis Colts wide receiver Pierre Garcon has gone ballistic, following up last week's two touchdown performance with four receptions for 119 yards and two more scores through three quarters of action today.

That second straight huge statistical day will likely send fantasy owners scrambling to add Garcon this week in leagues where he's available and tempt those that already own him to get him into their lineups next week. But a degree of caution in both regards may be well advised where Garcon is concerned.

The fourth-year pro has certainly shown flashes of talent and big play ability throughout his career (as evidenced by his three long touchdown catches over the past two weeks alone), but Garcon has also been maddeningly inconsistent, seemingly disappearing from the offense for stretches and dropping far too many easy catches.

Additionally, the Colts opponent next week, the Cincinnati Bengals, entered today's action ranked first overall in the National Football League in total defense, and after two straight weeks of Garcon getting open deep one has to think that Bengals defensive coordinator Mike Zimmer will take steps to ensure that Garcon doesn't make it three in a row.

All of this isn't to say that adding Pierre Garcon to your fantasy team is a bad idea. The Colts quarterback Curtis Painter seems to have developed a rapport with Garcon and appears fond of looking his way when Painter's going for the home run ball.

However, before you insert Pierre Garcon into your starting lineup, it's important to consider that he's just as capable of posing a goose-egg as he is of having a huge day. This is the case with any number of boom/bust wideout options because any time you count on Garcon to propel your fantasy team to victory it's going to be a roll of the proverbial dice.
