Fantasy Football Power Rankings: Top 10 QB Plays Heading into Week 6
There is no doubt that 2011 is the year of the quarterback. With all-star running backs such as Jamal Charles and Arian Foster missing games due to injury, fantasy football owners who drafted quarterbacks in the first round are often better off.
There has been solid play out of a plethora of quarterbacks this season and things are looking up for many. A couple of these quarterbacks were surprises.
Here are the top 10 quarterbacks playing in Week 6:
No. 10: Josh Freeman
1 of 10Coming off a crushing loss at the hands of the 49ers, the Buccaneers will be looking to minimize their offensive mistakes.
If Josh Freeman can take care of the ball, the Buccaneers will be in great position to beat the Saints. He will also score quite a few fantasy points.
Running back LeGarret Blount is listed as questionable. If he is unable to play, the Buccaneers will be relying more on the pass, creating even more opportunity for Freeman.
Not to mention, if the Buccaneers get down big, they will be forced to go to the air even more.
The Saints have given up an average of 247 yards passing and 25 points per game.
No. 9: Ryan Fitzpatrick
2 of 10The Buffalo Bills have been the surprise team of the season. Look for that trend to continue.
While Ryan Fitzpatrick's production has been declining each week, Week 6 looks promising to turn things around.
The Giants have a mediocre defense and had a really tough game against the Seattle Seahawks in Week 5. They have given up an average of 251.2 pass yards and 24.6 points per game.
Fitzpatrick has thrown 10 touchdowns with only 4 interceptions this season. Look for a solid week of production.
No. 8: Michael Vick
3 of 10There are few greater fantasy threats than Michael Vick. He can score big in any game.
This week against the Redskins, Michael Vick will score big. The Eagles are just too good to be 1-5.
Washington has given up the third fewest points in the league, but Vick is so dynamic, he can change the outcome of any game.
Look for better decision making from Vick this week after a poor Week 5 performance.
Vick has 8 touchdowns and 7 interceptions. Not to mention, he has rushed for over 300 yards this season.
No. 7: Eli Manning
4 of 10With all of the Peyton Manning news, it seems like Eli has been a little under the radar this season.
In week 6, Buffalo is coming to New York for what is shaping up to be a great game.
The Bills have a weak passing defense, so Eli should have no problem cutting through it. The Bills give up an average of 283.4 yards per game in the air.
This season, Eli has 11 touchdowns and 5 interceptions. Look for a couple more touchdowns this week.
No. 6: Matthew Stafford
5 of 10The Lions are 5-0 this year and a big factor in their success is Matthew Stafford.
In Week 6, the 49ers travel to Detroit for what will be a very interesting game.
Stafford has a wide variety of receivers to throw to, ranging from Calvin Johnson to Brandon Pettigrew. On top of that, he makes very few mistakes.
The 49ers tend to give up a lot of passing yards, but few points. If Stafford can control the ball, he will have solid week as far as fantasy points go.
He has 13 touchdowns and 4 interceptions this season, while throwing for 1,436 yards.
No. 5: Tom Brady
6 of 10The New England Patriots are playing the Dallas Cowboys at home in Week 6. While the Cowboys have the No. 1 rush defense, their pass defense is not quite as strong.
The Cowboys give up an average of 25.2 points per game and Tom Brady and the New England Patriots are more than capable of exceeding that mark, but they will have to do it through the air.
They will need those points to make up for what their defense will give up to the Cowboys. The Patriots have the worst passing defense in the league.
Tom Brady has thrown for more than 1,800 yards and 14 touchdowns this season. Look for those numbers to drastically increase in Week 6.
No. 4: Cam Newton
7 of 10There is no doubt that Cam Newton is the surprise quarterback of the year. Though his team has not played well, he has.
In Week 6, the Carolina Panthers will play the Atlanta Falcons, who have been rather weak on the defensive side of the ball.
They are ranked 28th in passing yards and 24th in points.
While Newton has thrown six interceptions this season, his fantasy football value comes from yards. He has thrown for 1,610 yards this season. That's over 322 yards per game.
Look for big yards and a few touchdowns out of Newton during Week 6.
No. 3: Tony Romo
8 of 10This week, the Cowboys will travel to Foxboro to take on the New England Patriots.
The Patriots have the worst passing defense in the league, and Tony Romo will be able to tear through it.
The Cowboys will lean heavily on the pass this week and will have a great deal of success. Remember, Tony Romo is throwing to Miles Austin, Dez Bryant, and Jason Witten.
Romo has 7 touchdowns and 5 interceptions with 1,273 yards this season. Look for these numbers to improve in Week 6.
No. 2: Drew Brees
9 of 10In Week 6, Drew Brees and the New Orleans Saints will travel to Tampa to take on the Buccaneers, who are coming off a 48-3 loss by the hands of the 49ers.
The Buccaneers have a very mediocre defense and Drew Brees will exploit it.
Brees has a ton of targets that he can spread the ball to. The Saints have the second ranked passing game, and Brees has thrown for 12 touchdowns and 5 interceptions.
He will have a big week against a battered, disheveled Tampa Bay Buccaneers team.
No. 1: Aaron Rodgers
10 of 10Aaron Rodgers and the 5-0 Green Bay Packers take on the 0-4 St. Louis Rams in Week 6. It will be a bloodbath.
The Rams have the 31st ranked defense in the league, giving up 28.2 points per game on average. The fact that the Rams have lost three cornerbacks to season-ending injury does not help either.
Rodgers has 14 touchdowns with only 2 interceptions and over 1700 yards passing. Against a weak St. Louis rams team, those stats will only improve. Look for complete fantasy domination out of Rodgers in Week 6.
