Week 4 Fantasy Football Projections: Predicting the Top Scorer at Every Position

Michael DixonOct 7, 2011

Which players do fantasy owners most want on their teams for Week 5? Which players do fantasy owners least want to face in Week 5?

It's the same list of guys.

If you are playing these guys, be afraid; be very afraid.

If anyone at their respective positions tops these guys, they will have had a huge day.

Since a standard fantasy league has a QB, RB, WR, TE, K and DEF, that's what we're going to look at here.

Because of talent and matchups, these guys are going to have huge days.

QB: Drew Brees

1 of 6

Brees is well on his way to another huge season. He's only failed to throw for more than 300 yards in one game this year (that was a measly 270) and has a big group of receiving options at his disposal.

The Carolina defense has tightened up over the last few weeks, but think about this. Of the quarterbacks they have played, the closest to Brees is Aaron Rodgers.

In the Week 2 game against Carolina, Rodgers threw for 308 yards and two touchdowns. Brees will be right around that total.

RB: Darren McFadden

2 of 6

I actually think this game will produce a few high scoring backs. Actually, I think that the Texans will win, which would tend to indicate that Arian Foster will have the better day.

But even without Andre Johnson, I say that the Raiders are more reliant on McFadden than the Texans are on Foster.

With a strong pass rush to contend with, the Raiders would be best advised to utilize the run game. That means that McFadden will get plenty of carries.

When McFadden gets carries, good things happen.

WR: Calvin Johnson

3 of 6

With Andre Johnson out, Calvin Johnson is unquestionably the best receiver in the game. As we saw on Sunday, triple coverage isn't even good enough to contain Johnson.

The Bears do not do a good job defending the pass. Monday night's game just has all the makings of a big game for Johnson.

Johnson's always been great. But with a healthy Matthew Stafford, we're starting to see just how dominant he is.

TE: Owen Daniels

Maybe this is a bit of a gamble, but hear me out.

With Andre Johnson out, the Texans can't just abandon the pass when they are in the red zone. They may run more, but the defenses need to be kept guessing.

With a team's top receiver out, a tight end is a good bet for some touchdowns. Daniels has caught at least one TD in each of the last three games. With Johnson now out, that production is not going to go down.

K: Stephen Gostkowski

5 of 6

The Jets have a strong defense, while the Patriots have a strong offense. So, here's how I see this game going:

The Patriots will move the ball, but will struggle (for their standards) to score touchdowns. When that happens, the kicker will come into the game and rack up points for his fantasy owners.

There are a few other good kickers to go with here, but I don't see any of them topping New England's kicker.

DEF: New York Giants

6 of 6

The Seahawks offense isn't ever daunting. Away from their home surroundings, they are just awful.

Slowly but surely, the Giants' defense is starting to heal a little better. So, this game just has all the potential to be a low scoring game with a lot of turnovers and sacks.

That's a good combination to have in your favor.

Generally, going with the defense playing the Seahawks is a solid fantasy idea. This week, it might even be better than normal.
