5 NFL Teams That Should Lure Brett Favre out of Retirement
Now that a quarter of the NFL season is complete, it is clear to the whole league that certain teams are not going to make the playoffs, and others will.
The first quarter of the season has also showed that there are teams that would have a chance if they had a quarterback, and who better to give a call than Brett Favre.
Yes, Favre is ancient and half falling apart, but he is a gamer and still has some gas left in the tank. Favre could help out many NFL teams especially because he has had longer to recover from last season and would have fewer games to play this year.
I truly believe that if some teams phoned down to Hattiesburg, Miss., Brett Favre would answer the call, don his ironman cape and suit up the following Sunday.
Here are five teams that should give Brett a call immediately.
Minnesota Vikings
1 of 5This would be difficult deal to pull off because Favre has already left Vikings fans with a bad taste in their mouth from last season.
The Vikings also have a "franchise" quarterback in McNabb (or someone making a franchise quarterback's salary) and rookie Christian Ponder waiting to take the reigns.
The fact is, the Vikings are 0-4, McNabb isn't getting it done and a rookie QB is not the answer.
If the Vikings signed back Favre, they would again have an offensive leader who the team knows and respects.
It was also just two years ago Favre threw for 33 touchdowns and just seven interceptions. He has the talent, and now, he has had time to heal up his body.
The Vikings are not going to make the playoffs unless they come close to winning out, but maybe they could use some of that Brett Favre magic from 2009.
Indianapolis Colts
2 of 5Signing with the Colts made the most sense to me, prior to the season starting, but there is still time. They have the line and they have the receivers; all they need is a smart veteran quarterback.
Unfortunately, the Colts thought they were getting this in Kerry Collins, but starting him over Curtis Painter is a mistake in itself, let alone signing Collins over Favre.
Favre would be a perfect fit in Indy. Yes, they have work to do because they are 0-4, but with a legitimate quarterback, they have a shot at making the playoffs.
Favre is that only chance at making the playoffs, and the Colts line should be able to keep him on his feet.
Plus, Brett Favre and Peyton Manning on the same team?
Sounds like the Madden team I used to create when I was 12, not to mention the unreal amount of quarterback knowledge that would be present in Indianapolis.
Favre could right the sinking Indy ship.
Cincinnati Bengals
3 of 5The Bengals might be thought of as an odd fit for Brett Favre, but it is very plausible.
Andy Dalton is not ready to take over this team, and it has shown with his 76.9 QB rating. The Bengals owner, Mike Brown, is throwing Dalton out to the wolves because he is mad at Carson Palmer.
Favre could mentor Dalton if the Bengals really want him to be the quarterback of the future, and in the meantime, they could win games with Favre.
The Bengals just need the quarterback. They have the defense who are playing as good as anyone right now, and they are first in the NFL in yards allowed at just 275.5 YPG.
Favre could also turn rookie AJ Green into a superstar, and Cedric Benson is more than capable enough to rush for 1,100 yards and take pressure off Brett.
The Bengals are 2-2, and Brett Favre could put this team in contention to battle with the Baltimore Ravens for the AFC North crown.
San Francisco 49ers
4 of 5Brett Favre would wreak havoc in the NFC west. Even without warming up, his is better than every quarterback in this division.
He also has the best chance at making it to the playoffs with the 49ers because the division is so weak overall, and nine wins will most likely be more than enough get the postseason bid.
Alex Smith has been given so many chances because the 49ers drafted him so high, but that can't last forever they have to cut Smith lose at some point.
The 49ers don't have anything to lose by signing Favre, and a chance at the playoffs is what would entice Favre the most to come back.
The 49ers also have one of the weakest schedules in the NFL for the remainder of the season, so Favre could have a nice easy cakewalk to the playoffs.
Miami Dolphins
5 of 5Brett Favre landing in Miami is actually possible now that Chad Henne is now officially done for the year. Henne is undergoing season ending surgery on his separated left shoulder.
The Dolphins have Matt Moore to fill in at quarterback, but when Henne went down, so did all hopes of making the playoffs (not that there was any real chance to begin with).
It would be more than difficult for Favre to come into an winless situation and beat out the Patriots and the Jets, but Favre might want the challenge, as well as the opportunity to beat his former team.
The Dolphins essentially have two options now: Give up on the season and just wait for Andrew Luck, or roll the dice on Favre have an exciting season and most likely still have a good chance at landing Luck.
