Ben Roethlisberger Injury: Does Left Foot Make Steelers QB Bad Fantasy Play?

Ryan PhillipsOct 6, 2011

Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger will play through the pain in his left foot this weekend against the Tennessee Titans. His sprained foot will hurt, but there were no signs of a break, dislocation or structural damage, which means he will be able to be on the field for Sunday.

Roethlisberger will reportedly wear a steel-toed shoe, but the injury will make it difficult for him to push off and follow-through on his throws.

With the way Pittsburgh's offensive line has played so far this season, you might want to rely on another option at quarterback this week. The Steelers have allowed Roethlisberger to be sacked 14 times through just four games.

One of the best parts of Big Ben's game is his ability to escape pressure and complete throws while moving around. Obviously, those skills will be diminished by his injured foot.

The Steelers will also be facing a red-hot Titans defense that has propelled the team to a 3-1 start, despite an average offense.

Tennessee boasts the league's seventh-best defense. The unit has allowed just 299.8 total yards per game, and an NFL-best 14 points per game.

The Titans have also allowed just 848 yards passing and only four passing touchdowns. They have snagged five interceptions and sacked opposing quarterbacks on 10 occasions. What's more, they have limited opposing signal-callers to an average quarterback rating of 72.5, which is third-best in the NFL.

This week, with his foot surely bothering him and a fantastic defensive unit lining up against him, Roethlisberger is a bad option at quarterback. If you own him and a reliable backup, it's time to sit Big Ben down.
