Week 5 Start 'Em, Sit 'Em: Stevan Ridley and 2 Flex Options You Must Start

Ryan PhillipsOct 6, 2011

The New England Patriots finally got running back Stevan Ridley involved in their offense in Week 4, and the rookie didn't disappoint.

The third-round pick out of LSU had 10 carries for 97 yards and a touchdown. That performance is sure to get him more playing time, and that's why he leads this week's group of must-start flex options.

Ridley has out-performed fellow running backs BenJarvus Green-Ellis and Danny Woodhead when given the opportunity, and his game on Sunday showed what he can do.

He has just 20 touches on the season, but he's averaging 7.95 yards per play. It would be shocking if the Patriots don't get him the ball a lot during their big matchup with the Jets this Sunday.

Ridley was on the field for a season-high 19 snaps against the Raiders in Week 4, with 14 of those coming in the second half. He is clearly the most talented runner the Patriots have, and his playing time will only continue to grow.

If you've got him, use him starting now.

San Francisco 49ers running back Kendall Hunter got his first NFL start in Week 4 and rewarded the team by gaining 100 total yards on 11 touches.

The rookie out of Oklahoma State has proven to be an explosive receiver out of the backfield so far this season, as he has gained 74 yards on just four catches for an average of 18.5 yards per reception.

While Frank Gore finally broke out in a big way against the Eagles on Sunday (127 yards rushing), Hunter is clearly a part of the 49ers plans going forward.

Even if he isn't on the field more than Gore, expect him to at least be used the way the San Diego Chargers and New Orleans Saints have used Darren Sproles. Hunter is a great flex option in his matchup with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers this week.

Pittsburgh Steelers wideout Antonio Brown has emerged as a solid third receiver for quarterback Ben Roethlisberger through the first four games of the season.

While Roethlisberger is struggling and banged up, the second-year wideout has seemed to find his footing and gained his quarterback's trust.

Roethlisberger targeted Brown 10 times during the team's 17-10 Week 4 loss to the Houston Texans, and the Central Michigan product finished with five catches for 67 yards.

On the season, Brown has 15 receptions for 223 yards but hasn't found the end zone yet. That shouldn't worry you, as he will get scores as the season progresses.

While the Steelers face an excellent Tennessee Titans defense in Week 5, I have a feeling Brown will have a good week, and he's an excellent flex option.
