NFL Trade Rumors: Will Chad Henne Injury Renew Miami's Interst in Carson Palmer?

Ryan PhillipsOct 5, 2011

During their 26-16 loss to the San Diego Chargers on Sunday the Miami Dolphins lost quarterback Chad Henne to a separated left shoulder. While the injury came to his non-throwing arm, the team fears it could be season-ending in nature.

With Henne definitely out for now, backup Matt Moore has taken over the reins of the offense, but he is obviously not someone the Dolphins have confidence in long-term. Miami is currently considering a lot of options. but even before Henne's injury the team was reportedly interested in acquiring semi-retired Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Carson Palmer.

Now with their starter injured, the Dolphins are probably even more desirous of the two-time Pro Bowler.

While Miami might want Palmer and Palmer might be open to playing in Miami, Bengals owner/general manager Mike Brown is almost certain to refuse to trade his former franchise quarterback. Though it might be best for all parties if Cincinnati just traded Palmer away, Brown has always been a very stubborn guy.

He feels that if he gives in to the 2002 Heisman Trophy winner's demands, it would set a precedent.

Furthermore, Brown's organization has a way of attracting a large number of disgruntled players. Whether through bad luck or just the way the scouting department operates, the Bengals somehow end up with a lot of unhappy guys. Allowing one player to voice his displeasure and force a trade could lead to bad things in the future.

While the Dolphins might come calling to Cincinnati again about Palmer, don't expect anything to happen on that front. Brown has made up his mind to let his former quarterback rot on the sidelines and that's not likely to change any time soon.
