Reggie Bush: Why Dolphins RB Is Smart to Support Sparano

Tom EdringtonOct 5, 2011

The vote of confidence in Miami Dolphin coach Tony Sparano is becoming a landslide.

Sparano now has two votes.

First and most important, he has the vote of owner Stephen Ross—and basically, his is the only one that really counts. But in case you need more, Reggie Bush is down with his owner.

You may want to hold your nose on this one, as Reggie Bush has declared that Sparano is:

1. A great guy.

2. A great person.

3. A great coach.

4. A great mentor.

Okay. You can understand that Reggie is a good company man. Of course he's going to support his head coach.

What do you expect him to say? Uh, "Our coach is clueless, he's a goner and I hope the next guy will do better."

Nope, Reggie's a good soldier and he's smart taking the high road, as proven with this gem:

"I think coach Sparano is a great coach, and it's not all on him. Like I said, it falls on all the shoulders who's getting paid by the Dolphins. We're all employees here, we're all grown men and we all have a job to do. A lot of us haven't been doing the job as well as we should have been. It's not all Coach Sparano's fault."

It goes on and on—but you get the picture.

Obviously, Reggie understands the old adage that "folks who live in glass houses shouldn't throw stones." Bush has built his own glass house this season with his whopping 119 yards, and he's not averaging more than three a carry.

Bush is right, on some level, that the "Mess In Miami" is not solely Sparano's fault—it's been one bumfuggle after another down there.

But you have to wonder about all this "great" stuff.

Great guy and great person—well, that's Reggie's call, and that's fine.

Great coach? Great coaches are in the Hall of Fame. Vince Lombardi was a great coach, Don Shula was a great coach. Reggie might want to look up the definition of "great." If he did, he might reconsider his declaration that Sparano is a "great" coach.

If Reggie is blowing smoke up Sparano's butt, the Dolphins coach would look like a Chinese factory about now. The EPA in Miami would show up and shut him down.

Yes, it is nice to support your coach when times are bad and right now, things are pretty iffy in Miami.

But great coach?

Come on, man!
