2012 NFL Mock Draft: Which Teams Land Their Biggest Need in Updated Mock?

Wes ODonnellOct 5, 2011

There are still 12 games to go in the NFL regular season, but glaring weaknesses are already present for a number of teams.

For some, their weakness is at the most important position of all: quarterback.

As of now, there are three top-10 possible QBs and a few that could creep into the first round with continued success on Saturday.

For others, landing a top-notch wide receiver, first round running back or game-changing defensive player is the only thing fans are thinking about as their team flounders every Sunday afternoon.

Not everyone is going to be happy come draft day, but the optimism is always there.

Here are are four teams that did land their biggest need in the latest mock.

Miami Dolphins: Andrew Luck, QB, Stanford

With the distinct honor of being the worst team in the league (which will also be accompanied with the firing of head coach Tony Sparano) the Dolphins finally get the quarterback they need to replace Dan Marino.

It has been a decade since Marino last played for the Dolphins, but they have never been able to settle on a new franchise signal caller.

That all changes with Andrew Luck.

The consensus No. 1 prospect for nearly the past three years is going change things for the Miami Dolphins. All they have to do is keep losing (or "Suck for Luck" as they call it).

Oh, and pick the right coach. That will be the ultimate challenge for this team this offseason.

St. Louis Rams: Justin Blackmon, WR, Oklahoma State

They missed out on A.J. Green and Julio Jones last year and settled for a couple of mid-round pick receivers. That isn't working for them, and neither are the offseason acquisitions they made.

The time has come for the Rams to give Sam Bradford a legitimate No. 1 target.

Forget about the fact that Bradford is a Sooner and Blackmon is a Poke, these two will be great together in St. Louis.

The Oklahoma State receiver can dominate games at will, has the speed and size to get deep and go up for the ball and, most importantly, he's a game-changer.

Cleveland Browns: Michael Floyd, WR, Notre Dame

The Browns passed up the opportunity to draft Julio Jones last year and now have two picks in the first round this year.

They currently sit at 2-2, right in the thick of things in the AFC North, but that will be hard to maintain with the weapons they have on the outside.

This year, with those two picks, they are sure to invest in a top-flight receiver.

Michael Floyd is exactly that. One of the most prolific receivers in the history of Notre Dame football, Floyd is a true game-changer with a rare combination of size, speed, hands and toughness.

At times he's put the Irish on his back and Colt McCoy will be thrilled at the opportunity of throwing balls to Floyd for the foreseeable future.

Oakland Raiders: Morris Claiborne, CB, LSU

What happens when your best player leaves in free agency and you have absolutely nobody to replace him with? You wait until the draft.

The Raiders had to let Nnamdi Asomugha go for all that money he wanted, but now they can get their next top cornerback this year at a cheaper price and with much more youth.

Claiborne is quickly becoming one of the most recognized names at the position this season and could be (he is this update) the second cornerback off the board.

His weight is the only issue transferring to the next level, but his overall skills are undeniable.
