NFL Predictions Week 5: 3 Teams Whose Offseason Failures Will Hit Home

Ryan RudnanskyOct 5, 2011

Usually when you ignore your weaknesses, they come back to haunt you.

Several NFL teams have found that out the hard way this season, scrambling to patch up holes that threaten to envelop them.

The quicker you face your weakness head on, they quicker you will turn them into strengths.

Three teams in particular failed to do that this offseason, and it will come crashing down upon their heads in Week 5.

Chicago Bears (2-2)

There are two nightmares Chicago Bears quarterback Jay Cutler probably has every night: last season's NFC Championship Game and an opposing team's pass rush.

It seems like every team that faces Cutler looks him dead in the eyes and knows he's doomed.

The Bears' offensive line hasn't gotten any better this season than when it gave up a league-high 56 sacks in 2010. Adding rookie Gabe Carimi was a step in the right direction, but the Bears should have added a veteran for the time being.

The Bears face a Detroit Lions team complete with Ndamukong Suh in Week 5. Run and hide, Jay. Run and hide.

Seattle Seahawks (1-3)

I can understand the Seahawks wanting to move forward and letting quarterback Matt Hasselbeck go in the near future. But given they currently have Tarvaris Jackson and Charlie Whitehurst as their quarterbacks, they probably shouldn't have let Hasselbeck go so soon.

Hasselbeck is thriving in Tennessee and the Seahawks, well, they aren't.

The Seahawks face the New York Giants in New York in Week 5 and it could get ugly out there, folks.

Jacksonville Jaguars (1-3)

What's the worst thing you can do to a rookie quarterback? Give him no one to throw the ball to. The St. Louis Rams found that out last season, and the Jaguars are this season.

Blaine Gabbert is being relied on to produce on the field when he doesn't have a legitimate No. 1 receiver. I just don't understand why the Jaguars would welcome Gabbert to the NFL that way.

Gabbert faces a good Cincinnati Bengals defense in Week 5 and the Jaguars will fall further in the process.
