2012 NFL Mock Draft: 3 Teams in Best Positions to Land Andrew Luck

John RozumOct 4, 2011

The 2012 NFL Draft, otherwise known as the "Andrew Luck Lottery" (redundancy at its finest) will be arguably the most anticipated draft in recent history, as Luck was slated as the No. 1 prospect in 2011, and had he been eligible, he could have been a first-round pick in 2010.

Well, through four weeks of pro football, four teams are without a W, and seven others only have one win.

With that in mind however, there's only three teams of those 11 who are desperately in need of a QB.

It obviously remains to be seen as to where Luck gets drafted, but in any event here are the three teams that are best positioned to take him.

Indianapolis Colts (0-4)

Regardless of whether Peyton Manning suits up in 2012 or not, drafting Andew Luck is crucial to the future of the Indianapolis Colts.

However, if Manning does play next fall, drafting Luck will have better prepared the franchise for when Peyton retires.

In turn, Andrew Luck learns from one of the best ever how to play QB in the pros, and then hits the ground running when given the keys to the car.

Now, matching what Manning did won't be expected, but for as smart as Luck is, combined with his athletic ability and play-making ability, Indy is much better off with him, as opposed to Curtis Painter or Dan Orlovsky.

When the 2012 NFL Draft comes, the Colts need to pick Luck if they have the opportunity, otherwise their future may not be nearly as bright.

Miami Dolphins (0-4)

The question in Miami is how much longer can Chad Henne and/or Matt Moore be their answer?

In addition, there's a good chance that head coach Tony Sparano is out after this season, so beginning anew at the head coach and QB positions is vital to the Dolphins competing in arguably the NFL's toughest division.

Plus, starting over with a new head coach is something that Andrew Luck is used to after all. He's currently going through that at Stanford as we speak.

The only difference in Miami however, is that WR Brandon Marshall is out wide, which, finally having a solid QB under center, will certainly keep Marshall's confidence up.

The hardest thing about Luck going to Miami is that he'll have to learn by doing, as opposed to by watching, because the 'Fins don't have anyone for Luck to really grasp the NFL game from.

Seattle Seahawks (1-3)

If you're a Seahawks fan, you have to ask yourself this question: is Tarvaris Jackson the long-term solution under center?

That answer has to be an imperative, "no", because Andrew Luck is already better than him.

Right now Seattle has a respectable defense across the board, but they have virtually no offense to help them.

Having Luck under center will be perfect for head coach Pete Carroll's offense, plus former Stanford WR Doug Baldwin is with Seattle, so the chemistry and timing won't be nearly as much of an issue.

Not to mention the NFC West is the NFL's worst division, so Luck will most definitely have more immediate success than he would playing elsewhere.
