WWE Hell in a Cell 2011: Sin Cara Character in Major Trouble After Brutal Match

Tim DanielsOct 3, 2011

There were mixed emotions going into the Sin Cara vs. Sin Cara match at Hell in a Cell. After a match that left the crowd to chant “boring” repeatedly throughout (and it wasn't even a long match), the WWE has to make some big decisions about the character.

While Sin Cara has gone over well with the younger demographic, you get the feeling that he was pushed too hard, too fast. Mistico, who originally portrayed the character, botched an uncountable amount of moves before being suspended for a Wellness Policy violation. And Hunico wasn't any better.

So, what does the company do now?

Mistico won at the pay-per-view in a quick match, but it's clear he isn't ready to be on live television every week. He is still trying to pick up the English language, and until he does it's going to be a struggle every time out.

Some fans (and probably the WWE brass) were hoping that working together would allow the two Sin Caras to put on an exciting match and carry on their feud while both guys became comfortable with the WWE style. It didn't happen.

The best option would be to determine a way to write both guys off television for awhile—at least a month, but probably all the way through Survivor Series.

This would allow Mistico to head to FCW or another training facility to continue his development. The company obviously had big plans for him, but they have to admit it just isn't working out. The awe-inspiring ability is there, no doubt, but it's just too sloppy at this point.

While the development work should help his in-ring ability, it will also give him more time to work with an English coach to learn the basics of what he needs to understand during a match (at the very least). That will go a long way in making his matches go smoother.

As for Hunico, he needs to be given a new character. The WWE has a myriad of injuries they are working through right now, so there is room for him. That said, they can't let him reclaim the Sin Cara character if they do decide to send the original for more training.

It's good news for the WWE that Survivor Series is on the horizon, and they have a lot of work to do in building the storylines for that major PPV because whatever they want to do with Sin Cara can be accomplished under the radar.

One thing is clear, they can't maintain the status quo because it just isn't working. And if they do keep pushing him right now, the WWE risks ruining a very promising character.
