WWE Hell in a Cell 2011: The Top 5 Moments of the Week Leading to Sunday's PPV

Kaleb KelchnerJun 7, 2018

With WWE Hell in a Cell 2011 fast approaching, Bleacher Report is here to break down the top five moments of the week leading to Sunday night's pay-per-view.

We'll be covering both WWE Monday Night Raw and WWE Friday Night SmackDown, the two go-home shows for Hell in a Cell.

There were plenty of moments to choose from both television cards, from top to bottom.

With WWE Champion John Cena set to defend his title against CM Punk and Alberto Del Rio, and World Heavyweight Champion Mark Henry facing Randy Orton in a rematch, Hell in a Cell is set to be an explosive event, if the moments of this week are any indication.

Throw in a surprise return, a conspiracy and new attire for the heel Sin Cara, we've had a rather eventful week!

A Mutiny Begins To Brew During Raw's Opening

Monday Night Raw got off to an interesting start when some of the most recognizable heels of WWE came to complain to WWE COO Triple H.

Vickie Guerrero accompanied United States Champion Dolph Ziggler to the ring, followed by Cody Rhodes, and then finally Christian.

WWE Creative is trying to get across the idea that Triple H is "losing control" of WWE, and the growing number of disgruntled employees is doing that quite well.

Triple H handled the situation in stride, giving Ziggler a title defense against Zack Ryder, giving Christian not just "one more match" but three and finished off by putting Cody Rhodes in a battle royal to defend his Intercontinental Championship.

Later in the night, we'd see these superstars rallying around David Otunga, in his new lawyer gimmick and looking to work with John Laurinaitis.

Zack Ryder Challenges for the U.S. Title Then Works with Air Boom

Fans of Zack Ryder rejoiced when Triple H announced that Ryder was getting a shot at Dolph Ziggler's United States Championship.

Alas, Ryder's title shot ended in failure thanks to the managerial duo of Vickie Guerrero and Jack Swagger, who were in Ziggler's corner.

Ziggler and Swagger looked to beat down the Internet Champion but were ran off by Tag Team Champions, Air Boom.  This led to a six-man tag team match being made by Teddy Long, who is more or less playing the role of Anonymous GM...for some reason.

This led to the surprise return of Mason Ryan, who looked to be joining Vickie's stable, only to turn on his golden-haired teammates at the last minute.

Heel Sin Cara Debuts New Ring Attire

When Heath Slater was done jobbing to the face Sin Cara, the celebration was cut short by his rival and impostor.

Heel Sin Cara cut a promo saying that they would determine who the real Sin Cara was at Hell in a Cell, but that's not the highlight.

The highlight is that sweet black, silver and red ring attire.  We'll see if these two can perform as well as they look Sunday night.

John Cena, CM Punk and Alberto Del Rio Take an Early Trip to Hell

4 of 5

The main event of Raw featured a bit of a preview of Hell in a Cell's main event, with CM Punk facing Alberto Del Rio in singles competition.

The match came to an end with Punk blasting Del Rio with a head kick and getting the pin, but the fighting wasn't over.

The cell began to lower with Ricardo Rodriguez in the ring attacking Punk.  As Ricardo tried to escape, John Cena was ringside waiting for him and kept him in the cell as it reached the floor. Punk and Cena hit Ricardo with their finishers, but Del Rio returned to the fray with a steel chair.

Del Rio took out Cena and Punk with chair shots, with Raw coming to a close as he stood over them, surrounding by the massive cell.

Mark Henry Continues To Put in the Best Work of His Career

5 of 5

If you've read my past work, you'll know that I'm a big fan of Mark Henry's recent work.  This week has seen Mark Henry put in some scary promo work, on both Raw and SmackDown.

On Raw, Mark Henry was stuck with a $250,000 fine by WWE COO Triple H for his assault on Jerry Lawler last week.  Needless to say, the World's Strongest Man wasn't happy.

He was scheduled to face the Great Khali, but as Khali entered the ring when the bell hadn't been rung, Henry hit Khali with the belt, then hit him with the World's Strongest Slam.

He yelled that if he was going to pay, everyone was going to pay.  He stomped up the ramp, and before cutting to commercial, yelled at who I can only imagine was a child holding a fake World Heavyweight Championship, saying that the replica was fake, and his was real.

I suppose it could have been an adult with the replica belt, but the mental image of Mark Henry screaming at a kid is too good to neglect.
