World Series and MLB Playoff Predictions

Brian WinettOct 1, 2011

With last year's World Series Champion San Francisco Giants out of the race, who is primed to be this year's World Series Champion?

Will Tampa Bay's momentum carry them all the way through?

Will New York's payroll buy them another championship?

Will The Phillies pitching staff bring them the title they deserve?

Texas Rangers vs. Tampa Bay Rays

1 of 7

With Game 1 in the books, the Rays will continue their romp through Texas and provide adequate payback for last year's defeat.

With no Cliff Lee, the Rangers don't have a shot.

Rays in four.

New York Yankees vs. Detroit Tigers

2 of 7

Detroit Rock city will take this one in dramatic fashion, beating the Yankees in the house that Ruth didn't build.

The rain delay will have a bigger effect on New York's three-man pitching staff than it will the Tigers'.

Anyone else notice how ever since the Steinbrenner's have returned to running the Yankees—after they were banned for the few years that allowed them to cultivate players like Derek Jeter—that they don't win the World Series almost every year like they used to?

Maybe because they don't know jack squat about baseball.

Detroit will be rocking when the Tigers beat the Yankees in five.

Milwuakee Brewers vs. Arizona Diamondbacks

3 of 7

In a battle of two revamped pitching staffs, the Milwaukee Brewers will take this one due to their experience, passion, confidence and star power.

Braun and Fielder will lead the Brewers to a toughly contested Divisional Series title versus an underrated D-backs squad.

The Brew Crew is going to be able to out last the D-backs in a marathon of a series.

Brewers take it at home in five.

Philadelphia Phillies vs. St. Louis Cardinals

4 of 7

The St. Louis Cardinals went on a tear to win the Wild Card straight out and the Philadelphia Phillies are the team who over the last three days of the season put them there.

By sweeping the Atlanta Braves, the Phillies scheduled themselves against one of the hottest teams in baseball and possibly the most feared hitter of this generation in Albert Pujols.

All of the Cardinals momentum won't mean much, however, when they get to Philly, who is still steaming from a premature exit from the playoffs at the hands of the World Series Champion Giants last year.

The Cardinals will win one big at home for their fans, although the Philadelphia pitching staff will prove dominant and take this series in four.

Detroit Tigers vs. Tampa Bay Rays

5 of 7

This Detroit team reminds me of the 2002 Angels.  The problem for Detroit is so do the Rays.

Neither team is the best team on paper, yet they're going to fight you every pitch of every game and get the job done.

The Rays' run will end here, which is much farther than anyone has given them credit for.

Detroit will dispose of the Rays quietly in six games, bracing themselves for the World Series.

Philadelphia Phillies vs. Milwaukee Brewers

6 of 7

The world will be shocked when Nyjer Morgan steals home and the Brewers hit three solo home runs to win Game 7 in front of another disappointed home crowd in Philadelphia.

The Brewers' bullpen will keep Milwaukee in this series against a superior team to get them to this point.

The magic that surrounds the Brewers will carry them through this series, which will be the toughest test of their run this season.

Brewers in seven.

Milwaukee Brewers vs. Detroit Tigers

7 of 7

When the Brewers face the Tigers in the World Series, it's going to be a coming out party for the Brew Crew.

Expect the first part of the first game to be played tight, and then for the Brewers to turn it on and bring the World Series Title home in six games!

They cold win it in five, but they'll spot the Tigers a game so they can win it at home in front of a home crowd.

A fitting farewell to the Prince of the city, should this be his last year in Milwaukee.  Or maybe the revenue and a championship will keep Fielder in Milwaukee.

Brewers in six.
