ALDS Schedule: Why New York Yankees Will Falter Against Detroit Tigers

Matt FaulconerSep 30, 2011

Is there anyone who could bet against Justin Verlander?

It wouldn't be a very wise decision.

Verlander has absolutely dominated the entire MLB this year, and came up just short of recording his 25th victory this year.

He will be starting Game 1 against the Yankees tonight, and that doesn't bode well for the Yankees lineup.

He has the potential to not only shutout opposing teams, but pitch a no-hitter against any team on any given day.

Not only are the Yankees going to have to deal with him in Game 1, but if this series goes five games, you can believe he will be on the mound for that game as well.

He is the best pitcher in all of baseball right now, and he is going to prove that against the Yankees. If he is able to win both games against the Yankees, this series will be over. The Yankees will not win every other game, and the Tigers will advance to the American League Championship Series.

There is no guarantee that Verlander can single-handedly carry his team to victory, but at this point is there anyone who really wants to bet against it?

The Yankees should be worried about drawing the Tigers. They may not be the most well-rounded team in the playoffs, but they certainly have the best pitcher in the game right now.

One pitcher won't win a World Series, but one pitcher can win a series.
