Week 4 Start 'Em, Sit 'Em: Arian Foster and 5 Players to Sit This Week
It's already Wednesday in Week 4 of the NFL season, which means it's about the time most owners start setting their fantasy lineups for the coming weekend.
While guys like Tom Brady and Aaron Rodgers are easy starts each week, the borderline players—the ones who are tough decisions to sit or start—usually are the ones who make or break any given week.
Here are the five players you should think about sitting in Week 4, starting with Texans running back Arian Foster.
Texans RB Arian Foster
1 of 52011 stats: 10 rushes, 33 yards, 0 TDs
The Texans have stated that Foster will likely start against the Steelers on Sunday, but that doesn't mean you should be starting him right off the bat.
He's still a risk to re-injure his hamstring, and the Texans have the option of inserting Ben Tate, who has been productive in Foster's absence, at any moment if they feel the NFL's defending rushing champion isn't up to snuff.
It certainly doesn't help going up against the Steelers, one of the better run defenses in the NFL. Until you see more of him in full-time duty, it's best to keep him sitting on your bench.
Colts TE Dallas Clark
2 of 52011 stats: 10 catches, 83 yards, 1 TD
When Peyton Manning was under center for the Colts, Clark's 2011 season totals were more likely to be during a one-game stretch than the three he's already played this year.
The combination of Kerry Collins and Curtis Painter has drained Clark of any real fantasy value, which is too bad, considering he can be a point-scoring machine with a quarterback like Manning.
Even against a Bucs' defense that has given up points to tight ends, it's best to keep Clark on the bench.
Broncos QB Kyle Orton
3 of 52011 stats: 672 yards, 5 TDs, 3 INTs
If Orton is in consideration for your starting quarterback slot, your team is probably in trouble to begin with. But if that truly is an option this week for you, I'd tend to go with your other quarterback.
Orton faces a trip to Lambeau Field to take on the defending champion Packers and a defense that is starting to catch fire. They harassed Jay Cutler, whom the Broncos traded to the Bears in a deal that brought them Orton, Sunday in Chicago.
Also, Orton's best weapon, Brandon Lloyd, still looks bothered by a groin injury. In Week 4, and maybe all the weeks after, keep Orton on your bench.
Jets RB Shonn Greene
4 of 52011 stats: 134 yards, 1 TD; 10 catches, 60 yards
Bring up Greene's name in a fantasy conversation, and I guarantee you'll get a complaint from an owner who continues to strike out on the Jets' third-year back.
When is he going to put it together? The Jets continue to give him opportunities, but Greene can't even get his yards per carry above four. LaDainian Tomlinson also takes away looks from Greene in the passing game.
Facing the Ravens won't help. How can you expect anything than what we've seen from him in the past two seasons as the starter?
Titans WR Nate Washington
5 of 52011 stats: 21 catches, 258 yards, 1 TD
Washington is all the rage on the Week 4 waiver wire, but I'd be careful with that enthusiasm. The reason Washington is getting a bump in fantasy rankings is because Kenny Britt is done for the season, but that might hurt Washington as much as it helps him.
He might see more targets, but the quality of targets will likely decrease. Without a legitimate No. 1 receiver opposite him, teams can focus their coverage on Washington.
At 28 years old, Washington has never proven himself to be anything more than a No. 2 receiver. Why all of a sudden are people expecting him to produce in a role he never has? Don't hesitate to pick him up, but let the hype die down before you make any rash decisions. He can prove he is ready for his new role while not causing any damage on your bench.
