NFL Power Rankings: 5 Best QB Matchups in Week 4
Thus far, NFL scheduling has brought us some great quarterback matchups—Aaron Rodgers vs. Drew Brees, Matt Ryan vs. Michael Vick and Philip Rivers vs. Tom Brady—just to name a few.
Lucky for us, Week 4 is keeping pace in giving us a great slate of quarterback battles on the gridiron.
While there are no MVP-caliber showdowns, I'm certain we won't be disappointed with what the NFL has in store for us.
Without further adieu, here's a look at five quarterback matchups that will grab our attention on Sunday afternoon.
Cam Newton vs. Jay Cutler
1 of 5The action that Cam Newton has given us thus far has been nothing short of incredible. Even though his team is only 1-2, the Panthers weren't expected to compete at all, making his feats even more jaw-dropping.
This week the league's third-highest passer visits Jay Cutler and the Chicago Bears.
Cutler's thrown for 300-plus yards in two of his three games this season. He'll be looking to do so again against Carolina's injury-depleted defense.
Much of his success rests on the protection of the offensive line, so we'll hold our breath until then.
Newton's what makes the matchup, as he's become the must-see in the NFL thus far.
Sunday's Chicago-Carolina game won't be short on these two guys airing it out early and often.
Matthew Stafford vs. Tony Romo
2 of 5Matthew Stafford and Tony Romo bring us the weekend's premier matchup, in my opinion.
The two gunslingers bring the fifth and sixth highest passing totals of the early season, and both guys have stud receivers to throw the ball to.
Tony Romo's injury might be the storyline of the game—he's shown us that he's the new iron man of the NFL.
While both guys may not put up numbers like the Brady-Henne show of Week 1, I'm guaranteeing we see an air show of similar proportions.
Mark Sanchez vs. Joe Flacco
3 of 5Mark Sanchez is averaging nearly 300 yards per game in the early season, leading his team to a 2-1 record in the process.
Joe Flacco has led his team to an equal record, as the Ravens love to attack using Ray Rice in every way out of the backfield.
Both Sanchez and Flacco are young stars rising in the ranks of NFL quarterbacks. Naturally, this matchup intrigues me.
Flacco is coming off a career day against the Rams, helping welcome rookie Torrey Smith to the NFL with a career day for himself.
I'm liking Flacco's chances of repeated success, especially if he can exploit Antonio Cromartie deep with Smith again.
Sanchez, well, I'm certain he's going to produce if the Jets running game is incompetent again.
Tom Brady vs. Jason Campbell
4 of 5Tom Brady is going to put up his usual numbers. I have no doubt about that, so I'm not going to elaborate as to what he brings to the table in this matchup.
What I want to discuss, and in turn what I'll be watching, is Jason Campbell.
New England gives up an average of 377 yards per game through the air. That is dead last in the NFL thus far.
With Oakland's run-first offense starring Darren McFadden, I like Jason Campbell's chances to put up some huge numbers on Sunday when the Patriots start to stuff eight in the box.
Campbell has a bright young arm that can break out any time and I like the chemistry he's formed with new target Denarius Moore.
New England vs. Oakland is going to be a very, very good game this Sunday.
Ben Roethlisberger vs. Matt Schaub
5 of 5I love this matchup for a couple of reasons.
From a team aspect, the Texans are a team on the rise. However, the Steelers have struggled in the early season. A statement win against the Texans is exactly what the Steelers need.
Roethlisberger to Mike Wallace could be reoccurring theme early in Sunday's game.
As for Schaub, he's put up a top 10 passer rating thus far.
He also has Andre Johnson at his disposal, so exciting plays through the air may be at an abundance.
Both teams need their leaders to step up and lead their team to victory on Sunday.
