NFL Predictions Week 4: 3 Road Favorites That Are No-Brainers

Eric BallSep 28, 2011

Typically you should be hesitant when picking teams on the road that are favored. Yet home field advantage varies depending on the team and not every squad should be awarded a free three points. Especially when talking about the first game on the list:

Buffalo Bills -3 @ Cincinnati Bengals

The Bengals had 20,000 empty seats in Sunday’s home opener and have already announced this one is going to be blacked out in local markets. The apathetic fanbase hates their owner and are proving as much by not supporting the team.

Buffalo is in the complete opposite boat, playing some of the best football in the league with the No. 1 ranked offense. They should dismantle a weak Bengals secondary.

The Bills have a ton of momentum entering this game and have quietly dominated the Bengals in recent history:

Key Trends:

Bills are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 meetings.

Bills are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 meetings in Cincinnati.

Road team is 4-1 ATS in their last 5 meetings.

Bengals are 4-9 ATS in their last 13 home games.

New York Giants -1 @ Arizona Cardinals

How is this spread not higher?

The Giants are dealing with multiple injuries yet just beat their division rival Philadelphia Eagles on the road.

The offense is among the league leaders in plays of 20 yards or more and the running game is finally getting whipped into shape.

The Cardinals can’t beat Tavaris Jackson and the Seahawks, and enter Week 4 with the 25th ranked pass defense and are 26th against the run.

Key Trends:

Road team is 7-3 ATS in their last 10 meetings.

Giants are 7-2 ATS in their last 9 games as a road favorite of 0.5-3.0.

Giants are 21-7-1 ATS in their last 29 games in October.

Cardinals are 2-5 ATS in their last 7 games following a S.U. loss.

New England -4 @ Oakland Raiders

This isn’t a slight at the Raiders; it’s more of never wanting to face the Pats after a loss gut feeling. They are extremely tough to beat straight up and against the spread the following week.

I’m sure it hasn’t been pleasant to be around Bill Belichick this week after giving up such a big lead in Week 3.

Key Trends:

Patriots are 24-9-1 ATS in their last 34 games following a S.U. loss.

Patriots are 5-0 ATS in their last 5 games following a ATS loss.

Favorite is 3-0-1 ATS in their last 4 meetings.
