Ozzie Guillen: Florida Marlins About to Be Hit with Dose of Ozzie

Gabe ZaldivarSep 27, 2011

He leads with a mouthful of opinions that can't get out quick enough. Ozzie Guillen, the former manager of the Chicago White Sox, is headed to Miami to change the culture of their baseball club, and just in time too.

ESPN is reporting that Ozzie Guillen was shown the door in Chicago, only to have one opened for him in Miami. The Florida Marlins will say goodbye to one acerbic coach and sign another.

Jack McKeon has issued that this will be his final season as the Marlins skipper. The no-nonsense manager will meander into retirement once again.

The Marlins players will hardly get a rest as Guillen comes in the door, carrying as big a stick as McKeon did. There is one thing you have to know about Guillen: He doesn't take any guff. Nor does he take rubbish, malaise, apathy, whining or excuses.

In fact, the Marlins get a manager that will provide two things at the helm. He will be a foul-mouthed manager that will drive ticket sales and an abrasive coach that will drive his players either crazy or towards victory.

As Coach

Make no mistake, Ozzie Guillen is a polarizing figure. You either love him or hate his guts. He has no qualms with throwing players under the bus if he feels their lack of hustle cost them a game. The likes of Hanley Ramirez may want to take note.

There is just one thing that drives Guillen, and that's winning. He understands that this is a business that mandates immediate results.

He doesn't care that the Marlins are mired in bottom-dwelling efforts. Next season will usher in a new era of hope for this team or there will be hell to pay.

As Public Figure

You don't need a mascot when Guillen is your manager. He will be the face, voice and emotional beacon for the Florida Marlins going forward.

If you want to know how the Marlins are doing without checking the standings, check the local news of fish wrap for a recent Guillen blowup. If none are there, the Marlins are winning.

Guillen, love him or hate him, has a passion and zeal you can't ignore. For a team that has failed to convince fans to come down to the ballpark, Guillen is the perfect catalyst to drive sales.

The contract disputes and extension breakdown couldn't have come at a better time for the Marlins. They are set to open a new stadium in 2012 and will be re-branded as the Miami Marlins.

A new logo demands a fresh new person to be the face of the franchise. Guillen will storm in and change the baseball culture of Miami. The fans that thought they loved the team before won't know what hit them.
