Toronto Blue Jays' New Logo: Ranking the Top 5 Logos in Team History

Stephen BrownJun 1, 2018

With many questions, rumours and leaked photos surrounding the new Logo of the Blue Jays, it is time to assess and rank the best logos in team history.

It seems that the new logo has been created to try and reinvigorate fans from the glory days. I am sure the Blue Jays staff has also seen the impressive sales of the powder blue jerseys across Toronto and tried to capitalize on it.

In any event, let us examine and rank the best primary logos in the team’s history.

5. 1997-2002

This logo attempted to bring a new pizzazz to the Blue Jays' uniform. However, it looks very much like a AAA uniform. I do, however, like the Canadian undertone that kind of looks like a blaze of fire, but the bird got way too symmetrical.

All in all, this logo was average at best. I was glad it only lasted from 1997-2002.

Moreover, the Blue Jays didn't have much on field success with these jerseys.

4. 2003

I actually liked this logo, and I think I may be the only one. Maybe it was because I disliked the previous one, but man does that Blue Jay look like he is ready to kick some…. behind.

Not only is the Blue Jay jacked, but he has a swagger and sense of relaxed confidence that I think is pretty money. You know he is about to hit the ball 500 feet, right?

But alas, I seemed to be the only one who liked the steroid Jay as it only lasted for 2003.

3. 1977-1996

This beauty was the inaugural logo of the Toronto Blue Jays in 1977 and lasted until 1996. The glory days, as they are known in the early 1990s, is part of the reason that the new Blue Jays logo resembles this one in so many ways.

This logo is pretty busy, with the baseball in the background, the name of the team around the edges, the Canadian flag and the big bird. It seem the Jays want the new logo without the ball and words. Simple works in fashion.

2. 2004-2011

4 of 5

The most current Jays logo. It is seemless, sleek and doesn’t try to be too flashy. It has been popular amongst the fans, and the black t-shirt jerseys have been seen all around Toronto.

The Jays have used this logo since 2004, and although they are currently changing the logo, it was not because this one wasn’t popular.

I love how angry the bird is...ANGRY BIRD.

1. 2012-?

It is not necessarily what the new logo brings by itself but how it looks as a whole. As mentioned, it is very similar to inaugural logo, but it is simpler and can easily be worn on an average day.

Many casual fans do not like wearing big flashy logos and jerseys on an average day, but since this new logo is sleeker and not as aggressive, casual fans can wear this in a fashionable way.

With such strong marketing and sales from the powder blue t-shirts, the Jays seem to be looking to a simpler logo to bring in fashionable Torontonians.

Moreover, the uniforms are to have a distinct Canadian feel, so this could invigorate further support from across the country.
