White Sox Manager Guillen Taking His Talents from South Side to South Beach

James BondmanSep 26, 2011

Joe Cowley of the Chicago Sun-Times is reporting the Florida Marlins and Chicago White Sox are in the final stages of completing a deal that would send Ozzie Guillen to South Beach to be the Miami Marlins manager in 2012.

Jon Heyman of Sports Illustrated is tweeting that the Marlins and White Sox have been working out a trade for some time now.

However, the deal is expected to be a clean transition and will not include a player, this according to Bob Nightengale of USA Today

Earlier in the day, Guillen met with owner Jerry Reinsdorf where he left empty handed and without an extension. If tonight's game versus the  Toronto Blue Jays is the last one for Guillen, he will leave the South Side with a record of 677-617 (not including Monday night's result).

On Monday, Jack McKeon announced his retirement and the ballclub consequently interviewed third base and outfield coach Joe Espada and Washington third base coach Bo Porter, formerly on Florida's staff.

Guillen might have substantial say in the Marlins' coaching staff, which could include a new bench coach, pitching coach, hitting coach and quite possibly third base coach.

I believe that Guillen might bring along Joey Cora as his bench coach but whether Greg Walker is his hitting coach (with Eduardo Perez on board) is questionable at the moment.

What's certain is that the Marlins will have a new pitching coach in 2012 since Randy St. Claire's contract is up. Guillen will choose his own man besides be Don Cooper, who is expected to remain in the Windy City.
