2011 Fantasy Football Waiver Wire Advice – NFL Week 4

Ryan LesterSep 26, 2011

There were some unusual heroes on Sunday. There always are so let’s take a look at them and see if they are worthy of your fantasy rosters.

Matt Hasselbeck, QB, Tennessee Titans:  If you still don’t think Hasselbeck is the real deal this year, he threw his second straight 300-yard game. He’s averaging 310.7 yards this year with five touchdowns to two interceptions. Just like last week you should snag him.
Ruling:  Get ‘em.

James Casey, RB, Houston Texans:  Casey caught five passes (seven targets) for 126 yards and a score. He’s not likely to do anything like that again…ever.
Ruling:  Don’t Sweat ‘em.

Antonio Brown, WR, Pittsburgh Steelers:  Brown caught four passes for 75 yards, leading the team with eight targets. He also had four grabs for 67 yards last week. He’s not a bad depth option, but the Steelers do spread the ball around.
Ruling:  Get ‘em.

Brandon Gibson, WR, St. Louis Rams:  Gibson caught five passes for 55 yards and a touchdown. He has had at least 50 yards in every game this year. He doesn’t have the big breakout potential. He’s only useful in deep leagues.
Ruling:  Don’t Sweat ‘em.

Brian Hartline, WR, Miami Dolphins:  Hartline caught all four of his targets for 87 yards. He has ten catches on the year for 170 yards and a score. He’s only a good depth option in deeper leagues.
Ruling:  Don’t Sweat ‘em.

Denarius Moore, WR, Oakland Raiders:  He was a popular pickup last week and if he went unclaimed in your league you may want to take a look. He had a 23-yard touchdown run to go along with four catches for 34 yards. He led the Raiders with six targets.
Ruling:  Get ‘em.

Donald Jones, WR, Buffalo Bills:  Jones caught half of his targets for five catches and 101 yards. The Bills spread the ball around and though he has 11 catches on the year for 128 yards and a score on the year, I don’t expect a weekly contribution from him.
Ruling:  Don’t Sweat ‘em.

Michael Jenkins, WR, Minnesota Vikings:  Jenkins caught nine passes (11 targets) for 88 yards. The ceiling is low for him, but he appears to have a nice rapport with McNabb. Only get him in 14-team leagues.
Ruling:  Don’t Sweat ‘em.

Nate Washington, WR, Tennessee Titans:  Washington caught eight passes (nine targets) for 92 yards and a score. He’s averaging 86 yards per game so far.
Ruling:  Get ‘em.

Torrey Smith, WR, Baltimore Ravens:  He’ll easily be the most popular player for waivers claims this week after going off for five catches for 152 yards, including three first quarter touchdowns. Ruling:  Don’t Sweat ‘em.

Victor Cruz, New York Giants:  I recommended him as a deep sleeper and he delivered catching three passes (five targets) for 110 yards and two scores. He probably won’t dominate like that very often, but he’s a nice depth option as the Giants’ third receiver.
Ruling:  Get ‘em.

Brandon Pettigrew, TE, Detroit Lions:  If Pettigrew is still available in your league you may want to snatch him up after his 11 catch (13 targets), 112 yard performance. He’s inconsistent but very athletically gifted.
Ruling:  Get ‘em.

Greg Olsen, TE, Carolina Panthers:  Olsen could be sitting on the waivers in some leagues because of the depth of the position. He caught seven passes (ten targets) for 57 yards and a score. He’s played well in two of the Panthers’ three games and is worthy of a roster spot.
Ruling:  Get ‘em.
