NFL Predictions Week 3: Which Offenses Will Struggle Most?

John RozumSep 23, 2011

Perhaps the most devastating thing to a football team is when the offense struggles to move the ball.

Think about it.

The defense gets a big stop, but not more than three plays later (possession after possession) they have to go back out there and do it again.

On the flip-side, if it's a bad defense with a good offense, it's not nearly as devastating, because at least points are being put on the scoreboard.

That at least shows progression, because then all the defense needs to do is step up one time.

But if the offense continually struggles, stepping up every single possession is nearly impossible.

And, unfortunately for the following three defenses, here are three offenses having difficulty moving the chains this weekend.

Indianapolis Colts (vs Pittsburgh Steelers)

It's bad enough that the Indianapolis Colts were already dealing with some rather significant injuries before Peyton Manning was out.

And now that Manning's been out, it's clearly been a huge hit to the Colts' offense.

To make matters worse, the Pittsburgh Steelers come by for a visit on Sunday night.

After only managing seven points in Week 1 against Houston, Indy did manage to score 19 against the Cleveland Browns.

But then again, it was the Browns, who still appear to be light-years behind Pittsburgh.

Indy's best chance is to try to somehow get a running game established, but in all likelihood, there's no chance of them getting anything going.

While The Steel Curtain's starters are out there, it would be an accomplishment if the Colts got into the red zone one time.

Seattle Seahawks (vs Arizona Cardinals)

After two weeks, the Seattle Seahawks rank No. 28 in pass offense and No. 32 in rush offense.

Last week, they were shut out against Pittsburgh, while they only managed 17 points against San Francisco in Week 1.

The Cardinals haven't been all that impressive, either. Their record is 1-1, and that one win came against an 0-2 Carolina team. However, with rookie Patrick Peterson, Adrian Wilson and Kerry Rhodes, they will get better in the pass defense.

Also, OL Robert Gallery is out, which bodes well for the Arizona pass rush and rush defense.

And with Tarvaris Jackson under center for Seattle, let's not get ahead of ourselves.

It's a big game for both teams, but even bigger for Arizona as they are slated to be the NFC West favorites.

The Cardinals step up big, and Ken Whisenhunt gets a win over Pete Carroll.

Dallas Cowboys (vs Washington Redskins)

With all their injuries, it's difficult to believe that the Dallas Cowboys are going to have any offensive production.

Even if Tony Romo plays, he's not going to be 100 percent, and WR Miles Austin is out.

In addition, the Redskins defense is very underrated. Washington has one of the best linebacking corps in football (rookie Ryan Kerrigan, Rocky McIntosh, Brian Orakpo, London Fletcher).

Also, the team is rolling with confidence after their 2-0 start, and QB Rex Grossman is playing within his ability while taking what the defense gives him.

As explosive as the Cowboys offense is, Washington's defense is every bit as good, if not better.

The secondary is led by DeAngelo Hall and LaRon Landry, both of whom will limit the Cowboys' passing attack, while the front seven get pressure on the QB and the LBs, in coverage, blanket the underneath routes.
