NFL Power Rankings Week 3: 2 Teams Ready to Rocket Up The Rankings

Eric BallJun 7, 2018

Here is a friendly reminder that the NFL season is only 1/8th of the way to the finish line.

There is no reason to throw the towel in just because your team didn’t get off to the start you expected.

Here are two teams that have played mediocre football thus far, but will be much better from here on out.

22. Tennessee Titans

What exactly was Seattle thinking?

QB Matt Hasselbeck is still capable of taking a team to the playoffs because of his ability to thread the needle and process the opponents’ coverage extremely quickly.

You can’t say that about most QBs in the league.

The Titans knocked off the Baltimore Ravens without much from RB Chris Johnson. In fact, the Titans rank at the bottom of the league in rushing yards (money well spent eh Bud Adams?) and have been a one-dimensional offense.

Most people expected that to be the case, but it was the passing game that was supposed to struggle.

Instead, WR Kenny Britt is a star in the making and the Titans offense hasn’t even peaked yet.

With a stout defense (a Titans staple) with terrific corners, there is no reason to think the Titans can’t compete for a division title in the pampers-soft AFC South.

26. Arizona Cardinals

I may have been a bit harsh to the Cards after blowing a very winnable game in Washington, but this team will bounce-back.

Offensively it’s simple: when you have an average QB (Kevin Kolb), an above average back (Beanie Wells) and a super-star receiver (Larry Fitzgerald), you will have plenty of success.

The problem lies on the defensive end, and yes it’s a major concern.

Rookie CB Patrick Peterson is going to be a star in this league, but is still learning the NFL game, and the Cards are forced to live with it. Right now only three teams are giving up more yards per game than the Cardinals, yet they are 11th overall in points allowed…a much more respectable number.

Assuming the young secondary improves as the season goes along, they should take full advantage of the fact that they get to play Tavaris Jackson and Alex Smith twice a year.

After watching the Rams stink up the joint on Monday night…it’s the Cardinals that are the favorites to win the NFC West and shoot up the power rankings.
