Fantasy Football: Best "Sell High" Candidates After Week 2

Adam FranchellaJun 7, 2018

Many think that what you do on Sundays decides whether or not you win your fantasy football league.

Little do they know, the decisions you make from Monday to Saturday are just as important.

After every week of football, there are opportunities that savvy fantasy owners take advantage of in order to take their team to the next level. Are you one of those owners?

No. 8: Steve Smith (CAR)

1 of 8

Steve Smith went from being rated in the third or fourth tier of WR's into tier-one in merely two weeks of play.

In my experience with fantasy football, it is rare that a jump that high in such a short period of time usually sticks for the entire year (especially with a rookie QB throwing the ball his way).

While Steve Smith may enjoy some prosperity with young Cam Newton at the helm, he will never be valued as high as he is right now. If you can land a Desean Jackson or Mike Williams (TB) for the price of a Steve Smith because a fellow team owner is focusing too much on last week's disappointing results from his high-value receivers, I would not hesitate to pull the trigger.

No. 7: Tony Gonzalez

2 of 8

In last week's Sunday night game against the Eagles, Tony Gonzalez was an absolute stud. On his way to putting up a 7-83-2 stat line, Gonzalez showed us multiple plays that reminded us of the Tony Gonzalez we used to see in Kansas City.

With Dallas Clark's value in concern due to the absence of Peyton Manning, Antonio Gates posting a donut last week, and Vernon Davis putting up duds in both Week 1 and Week 2, there is a lot of concern about the tight end position among fantasy owners.

Take advantage of this concern and sell Gonzalez to a worrisome owner with a hole at the tight end position and who will overpay for the big name and the big night.

No. 6: Jeremy Maclin

3 of 8

Maclin absolutely tore up the Falcons last Sunday night, setting his own personal record in catches (13) and yards (171), not to mention scoring two touchdowns.

While Maclin will probably be a solid fantasy commodity for the majority of the year, there are tons of owners who will overpay for his services after seeing his ridiculous performance on a national stage this past Sunday.

No. 5: Jahvid Best

4 of 8

Best is another guy who had a monster performance in Week 2. He racked up over 110 total yards running and receiving and scored twice in a blow out game against the Chiefs.

This performance will have many fellow fantasy owners wide-eyed thinking that Best is finally going to live up to the potential everyone saw last year. While Best very well may have a decent year behind an up-and-coming quarterback and on an explosive offense, he will not live up to the fantasies that are playing in other owners' heads.

Just as importantly, Best is a good bet to miss at least two or three games this year. Sell now and get something you will not get after Week 3 or 4.

No. 4: Tim Hightower

5 of 8

This sell-high recommendation comes because of one man, Roy Helu. Helu looked great last game rushing for 74 and adding another 38 on the receiving end.

It looks as if the time for him to steal Hightower's carries in this up-and-coming offense is here.

Don't worry, Hightower owners; Helu allowed Timmy to have over 100 total yards last week, just so you could sell high on an unsuspecting fellow fantasy owner.

No. 3: Ben Tate

6 of 8

Ben Tate has showed just about every fantasy owner that whoever is getting the carries in Houston is a must-start on a week-to-week basis.

Unfortunately for Tate, that man will be Arian Foster sooner or later.

My recommendation to all Tate owners is to trade him now at his inflated value, allow another owner to experience one more week or two of Tate success, then laugh when he is worth very little in only a few short weeks, and your roster is a Felix Jones or Beanie Wells richer for it.

No. 2: Fred Jackson

7 of 8

Don't get me wrong, Fred Jackson had a great game last week. Jackson ran for over 100 yards and two touchdowns and was pivotal in a comeback win over the Oakland Raiders.

However, Fred Jackson's best days are behind him, and once the Bills start using CJ Spiller more in their pass-happy attack, his numbers will rarely be that high again.

Sell now when his stock is at its highest.

No. 1: Cam Newton

8 of 8

Rounding out the list is none other than Cam Newton. In my mind, Cam Newton is the ultimate sell-high candidate.

In Newton's first two performances as an NFL player, he posted back-to-back 400 yard performances. Can his stock possibly get any higher?

Sell Newton now to an owner who needs a QB. Come on, you're telling me there's no guy in your league who drafted Peyton Manning thinking, "He'll be back sometime, right?" and is starting to hit the panic button on the QB position?

SELL, SELL, SELL!
