Vince Young: Why Michael Vick's Injury Can't Make Eagles Backup Relevant

Anybody seen Vince Young?

Help us out, Philly fans. Any of you guys seen Vince Young?

Heard a rumor of a Vince Young sighting. He was down at Geno's, wolfing down one of those marvelous cheese steaks. Then, just for the heck of it, he had to slide over to Pat's and scarfed down one of those, in an attempt to judge which was better.

Seriously, where's Vince Young?

If you look at the Eagles depth chart, he's your backup quarterback, but he might as well be in the Fed's witness protection program.

When Michael Vick got ka-bonged after his head hit one of his own linemen last Sunday in Atlanta, there was Mike Kafka in the ball game against those comeback-minded Falcons.

Young's supposed to have this troublesome hamstring so it was Kafka in there at crunch time against the Falcons, and the young man did quite well. Kafka, a fourth-round pick in 2010, went 7-of-9 for 72 yards and kept his team alive until Jeremy Maclin dropped one of his passes late in the game on fourth-and-4.

Which brings us back to Vince and the cheese steaks.

Andy Reid's not talking when it comes to Vick's status for Sunday against New York, although there are sneaky suspicions that the elusive one will give it a go against the Giants. Nothing says team like suiting up against the hated Giants, and Vick's a team guy.

If Vick can't go, Reid's still not talking, choosing not to make any choices between Kafka and Young.

For all of his talk, including his tag Dream Team when he joined the Eagles, Young hasn't done anything to write home about, or even text home about.

The two-time Pro Bowler who was given the bum's rush in Tennessee, is just another guy on the sidelines these days, hammy or no hammy.

So for now, Vince Young can only dream about playing football.

And cheese steaks.
