4 Most Overrated Washington Redskins on the Current Roster
The Washington Redskins 2-0 start to the season has been built on the solid play of previously unheralded players such as Fred Davis.
Some of Washington's so-called star players have failed to deliver a high calibre performance. The early success of the Redskins could easily lead to the team being over-hyped.
So before the exploits of the current team are blown out of proportion, here are the four most overrated Redskins players on the current roster.
4. Trent Williams, Left Tackle
1 of 42010's fourth overall pick arrived in D.C. with a big reputation and many pundits were certain that Mike Shanahan had acquired the next Ryan Clady in waiting.
But Williams has so far failed to live up to the billing. A tackle highly regarded coming out of college thanks to this athleticism, Williams has looked cumbersome in the pros.
His technique, footwork and balance have all been found wanting against experienced and skilled pass rushers.
Williams may only be two games into his sophomore season, but the former Oklahoma prodigy is already nearing bust status.
3. DeAngelo Hall, Cornerback
2 of 4Brash cover man DeAngelo Hall's tendency to gamble on a pass leads to highlight plays one way or another for the Redskins.
Hall will have days like his four thefts of Jay Cutler last season and he'll also have plenty of moments like the one which saw him helplessly trailing Larry Fitzgerald into the end zone, this past Sunday.
He is certainly a ball hawk capable of the big play, but Hall is not deserving of elite status amongst the league's cornerbacks.
2. Donte Stallworth, Wide Receiver
3 of 4Donte Stallworth's attempts to revive his career, first with the Baltimore Ravens and now with the Redskins, have so far failed.
The talented but temperamental wideout has not managed to stake a legitimate claim for a starting spot in D.C. Stallworth risks becoming the odd man out in a crowded and productive stable of Redskins pass catchers.
Anthony Armstrong can provide the deep threat Stallworth can and Santana Moss and Jabar Gaffney are combining well to handle the underneath receptions.
If Stallworth doesn't soon begin to positively contribute to the offense, then his purpose on the roster will have be called into question.
1. LaRon Landry, Safety
4 of 4LaRon Landry is an effective safety in the box, but the hard hitting defensive back is very much a highlight player, who can very often flatter to deceive.
Landry will deliver plenty of spectacular and bone crushing hits and will regularly launch himself into opposing backfields.
But Landry often fails to make a play when one is needed the most. At crucial moments during a game Landry will miss a tackle, often going for the brutal hit, instead of properly wrapping up the ball carrier.
He can also still be too easily exposed in coverage, where poor instincts frequently undermine his superior athleticism.
When Landry returns from injury he will need to be more consistent in his all round game, before he can be considered truly deserving of his talisman status on defense.
The Redskins promising start to the season has generated a lot of optimism. For the encouraging run to continue, some of the team's bigger names will need to produce on a more consistent basis.
