Giants vs. Eagles: TV Schedule, Live Streaming, Radio, Game Time and More

Zachary D. RymerSep 20, 2011

The New York Giants and Philadelphia Eagles have given us a handful of memorable games in recent years, and they will try to do so again in Week 3 of the NFL season.

After a rough loss to the Washington Redskins in Week 1, the Giants were able to right the ship with a 28-16 win over the St. Louis Rams on Monday Night Football. But despite the fact they are now 1-1, many fans are not yet convinced that the Giants are true contenders this year.

The Eagles, on the other hand, are supposed to be Super Bowl contenders. It hasn't looked like it, though, as the Eagles also enter Week 3 at 1-1 after a primetime loss to the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday.

For now, let's take a closer look at what we can expect from these two teams on Sunday.

Where: Lincoln Financial Field

When: Sunday at 1:00 p.m. ET

Watch: FOX, DirecTV 709

Listen: Live audio streaming on NFL.com (minimum $9.99 payment); WFAN and Sirius 91 for Giants, 94WIP and Sirius 112 for Eagles.

Betting Line: TBD (check back when Michael Vick's status is determined)

What's At Stake

Both the Giants and Eagles are 1-1 heading into Week 3, which ties them for second place in the NFC East behind the 2-0 Redskins.

If the Redskins fall on Monday night to the Dallas Cowboys, the winner of this game will have a share of first place in the division.

Giants Injury Report

The Giants faked a few injuries against the St. Louis Rams on Monday night, but they did have a pair of wide receivers go down with real injuries. According to the New York Post, Mario Manningham suffered a concussion and Domenik Hixon suffered an injury to his right leg. It has since been revealed (via the team's website) that Hixon actually tore his ACL and is out for the season.

This is the second year in a row Hixon has torn his ACL. Yikes.

Eagles Injury Report

The team is still being mum about the status of quarterback Michael Vick, who left Sunday night's game against the Atlanta Falcons with a concussion. Per NFL.com, the word is that Vick can't address the media until he is cleared medically, and head athletic trainer Rick Burkholder has five separate phases of testing for Vick to pass before he can be cleared.

If Vick can't go, the Eagles may have no choice but to start third-string quarterback Mike Kafka.

Update: According to ESPN's Adam Schefter on Wednesday, the Eagles believe Vick will be able to play. Nothing official yet, though.

Fantasy Start 'Em: Ahmad Bradshaw and Brandon Jacobs

It's only been two games, but it's already apparent that the Eagles are useless against the run, as they've allowed an average of 146 rushing yards per game so far. If you have Bradshaw and/or Jacobs, make sure you start them.

Fantasy Sit 'Em: All Eagles wide receivers

I say this under the notion that Vick is not going to be able to play, which I think is a legit possibility. If he can't, then the Eagles are going to have a very, very hard time moving the ball through the air.

Fantasy Sleeper: Ronnie Brown

If the Eagles can't move the ball through the air, they'll have to try moving it on the ground. That means more work for LeSean McCoy, but it will also mean more work for Ronnie Brown. Goodness knows he could use it, as he's carried the ball just seven times so far this year.

What They're Saying

Steve Politi of The Star-Ledger had some not-so-nice things to say about Eli Manning in a column he published on Tuesday.

"Manning was terrible early in this game," writes Politi of the Rams game, "completing just 2 of his first 11 passes and making a weak throw to a Rams safety that made him look every bit of a '25-interception quarterback' he swears he’s not."

And then, the words of warning: "... the Giants are going to have to win a lot of games this way, with defensive touchdowns and the generosity of a bad opponent. They are not playing a bad opponent next weekend in Philadelphia, but one that has owned them over the past three seasons."

Clearly, Manning had better shape up.

Meanwhile in Philadelphia, Bob Ford of The Philadelphia Inquirer touched on the Eagles' inability to stop the run, which was exploited by Michael Turner in the team's 35-31 loss to Atlanta.

Writes Ford:

"

"The failing against the running game comes one week after an opener against St. Louis in which an injury, not the Eagles, stopped running back Steven Jackson. It comes during a testy part of the schedule in which they will face some teams that don't mind leaning on the run. Of their next four opponents before the bye, only the San Francisco 49ers have a truly inferior running game. And, regardless, any offensive coordinator would be crazy not to try to run the ball against the Eagles."

"

That's an open invitation for Giants offensive coordinator Kevin Gilbride.

Giants Player to Watch: Eli Manning

It has to be Manning. The Giants should be able to use their running game to pound the Eagles into submission, but they need Manning to add the icing to the cake. If he has one of his bad games, which is likely to happen against Philly's vaunted secondary, the Giants will lose.

Eagles Player to Watch: Casey Matthews

Gonna go with rookie middle linebacker Casey Matthews here. Clay's younger brother has had a rough go of it in the first two games, and that's a big reason why the Eagles have had such a tough time stopping the run. He probably has no business being a starter in the first place, but the Eagles definitely need him to step up his game regardless.

Key Matchup

I've spent a lot of time hinting at it in the above paragraphs, but the key matchup in this game will be how the Eagles' front seven handles New York's rushing attack. Specifically, it will be up to Matthews and his cohorts in the linebacking corps to do a better job plugging gaps and pursuing runners. Their inability to do so is reflected in the fact the Eagles are giving up an average rush of 5.3 yards.

On the Hot Seat

Once again, we turn to our friend Eli Manning. If he doesn't perform well while simultaneously leading the Giants to a win, the boos and the criticism will keep coming. That's always been his lot in life, but it's even more intense this year with the Giants reeling from so many injuries to key players. The team is on his shoulders, and he needs to carry it.

Prediction

If Vick is unable to go in this game, I have a feeling it's going to be a hard-fought, low-scoring affair. It won't necessarily be a defensive struggle, mind you. It will be more like an ugly game for both teams, and the winner will be whichever team is less ugly at the end of the day.

The Giants do tend to win games like these, so I guess I'll take them to win it.
