2012 NFL Mock Draft: Which Teams Are Lining Up for Andrew Luck?

John RozumSep 20, 2011

It's no secret that when the 2012 NFL Draft commences that Stanford QB Andrew Luck will be the No. 1 overall pick.

That being said, what does remain are the teams who will have the opportunity to draft him.

And much to some teams dismay that are desperate for a QB, there are only three who have a shot to draft him, but only two really need him.

So who are the two that need him?

Let's fast-forward ahead seven months into late April and find out.

Indianapolis Colts

Obviously it's uncertain as to when Peyton Manning is going to return, but even when he does, we can't expect him to perform like he once did, as that would be significantly unrealistic.

However, since it is Manning, he will perform, but let's not forget, he is 35-years-old right now and will be 36 by next season.

So, it is safe to say that Manning is on the back nine of his career, which only would make drafting Andrew Luck that much more relevant.

Think about former and current NFL greats who backed a legend and then came in and did wonders.

Steve Young was behind Joe Montana for six years, and when he finally got his chance, Young led the 49ers to a Super Bowl win in 1994.

Now think about current Packers QB Aaron Rodgers.

He backed Brett Favre for three years from 2005-07, and then got his Super Bow ring three years after taking over.

With Luck in Indianapolis, once Manning retires, the current Stanford signal caller will be able to hit the ground running when he takes over; keeping the Colts rolling, while also preventing a five or six year relapse into the abyss that is the bottom of the NFL food chain.

Seattle Seahawks

It's unfortunate for him, but QB Tarvaris Jackson is only starting in Seattle to get them through the season without getting completely embarrassed.

That being said, head coach Pete Carroll would love to have Luck in his system, ad he could quickly help the Seahawks return to the pinnacle of the NFC West.

The only problem is, unlike Indianapolis, Luck would have to learn about playing QB in the NFL more so on his own than with the guidance of a legendary gunslinger.

In turn, once he began under center, it would take a few years (at minimum) for him to get Seattle where they want/need to be. But nonetheless they will get there.

Also, being that he would be in the NFC, in what's considered to be one of the NFL's weakest divisions, Luck would most definitely find success in terms of stats a little quicker than normal.

And since the Seattle Supersonics left for Oklahoma City, the Great Northwest is left without a big name superstar to go along with Ichiro Suzuki of the Mariners.

Luck would be that guy, and he would be welcomed in being a fan favorite.
