NFL Power Rankings: Which Teams Just Plain Suck?

Andrea HangstSep 20, 2011

Every year, teams emerge that are so bad that it's not up for debate.

I see it, you see it, the teams' fans see it—terrible offense, terrible defense, no leadership and a difficult schedule all combine in a perfect storm of suck.

This season, three teams are in the running for the absolute worst in the NFL, even after just two weeks.

The Seattle Seahawks are at the bottom of my power rankings this week, and will likely not rise much further than two or three spots as the season wears on.

They are dead last in average yards per game, rushing yards per game, and 31st in average points at a mere 8.5.

Quarterback Tarvaris Jackson is in way over his head, running back Marshawn Lynch won't have a chance to make a difference with such awful passing and the defense has been overmatched.

In a terrible NFC West division, the Seahawks are the worst of the worst.

The Indianapolis Colts aren't faring much better than Seattle this season.

Unable to overcome the loss of quarterback Peyton Manning, the Colts have scored an average of 13.5 points over two games and converted just five of 23 third downs.

Their defense, bad last season, is more of a liability than ever without a productive offense to compensate for it.

However, the team that will likely usurp the Seahawks as the very worst in the league as the weeks wear on, the team with the most surprising free fall so far this season, the team in the most trouble is the Kansas City Chiefs.

The Chiefs are last in the league in both average points (just five) and passing yards (110.5 per game) and, like the Colts, have converted only five of their 24 third downs.

Now that they've lost offensive leader Jamaal Charles for the season, the team as it stands has no chance of winning more than one or two games from here on out.

On defense, safety Eric Berry is also out for the season with a torn ACL.

Without him, and apparently without anyone else who can stop their opponents' run or pass games, the Chiefs have allowed the most points in the league thus far, with an average of 44.5 points scored against them.

Not only are the Seahawks, Colts and Chiefs terrible, it's hard to find a redeeming quality about any of them.

This is a surefire sign that these teams won't get out of the basement any time soon.
