John Cena Haters: WWE Champion Is Your Man, You Just Don't Know It Yet

Nathan GieseSep 20, 2011

John Cena is a man not very many people can get behind anymore.

"He's won too many championships."

"He never loses cleanly."

"It's so annoying how he never puts any younger talent over."

It's all been said before.

Except there is some problem with the logic people have towards Cena: It's extremely narrow-minded thinking. It is the thought of the masses. Everybody and their grandmother likes to say how Cena is overrated, or how he can't wrestle, or how he's only around to get the kids involved.

Fact of the matter is, Cena is none of those things, but also all of those things.

Let me explain. Creative-wise, Cena is booked to be one of the most dominant men in the company today. During his matches, generally speaking, Cena will take a beating and then miraculously come back, converting the first mistake by his opponent into the "5 Moves of Doom," and win the match cleanly. It's this exact scenario that has infuriated fans across the country, causing an uproar and demand for a Cena heel turn.

Cena may be overrated, but that is far from Cena's fault. Ultimately, Cena can only do what he is told to do by his bosses in the Creative department.

Many like to think Cena has a lot of pull backstage, almost to the same point guys like Triple H and Hulk Hogan had before him.  However much pull he does have politically speaking, none of it is relevant if Creative and the WWE as a whole didn't believe he could be THE man.

Determining if someone is overrated is completely in the eye of the beholder.

"Cena can't wrestle."

Another extremely popular view on Cena's ever-expanding list of reasons why people hate him.  Well, all you need to do is make a few searches on Google and Youtube, and you can find a number of stellar matches featuring John Cena.

"Yeah, but those matches were against some of the best in the business. They carry the match. If he faces anybody he sees not up to his standards, he cakewalks."

Ha, this one always makes me laugh. What's being described in this indirect quote from a Cena hater is what most of us refer to as "jobbing." Cena is not the jobber, but rather he is attempting to give some of the less-demanded wrestlers some air time.

Why would a big-name superstar like John Cena have to make a match competitive against the likes of Michael McGillicutty and David Otunga? Isn't the whole point of a main event star that they seem almost unbeatable?

There is a reason that Cena's best performances have come against Shawn Michaels, Triple H and CM Punk: they are the ones who should put up a fight against him.  He can wrestle; he just needs a quality opponent to show it.

Now to the kids' portion of the hatred towards Cena. Because kids love him, because he wears bright-colored shirts that he switches every six months, because his promos are generally clean of profanity—that means that Cena is only around to please the children. Right?

Dead wrong. John Cena is merely staying within the restraints of the TV-PG era in the WWE. Profanity is greatly frowned upon now, so there is more incentive to stay away from it during live, televised events, most notably Raw.  His colorful shirts aren't for the kids, they are for all of us.  How many studies have shown that different colors affect how we feel? I don't have an exact figure, but it's safe to presume quite a few. Different colors make for different feelings and emotions, not just in us as fans, but also for Cena.

If you look closely at the colors of Cena's shirts and his actions and emotions while wearing certain shirts, there is almost a direct correlation. Now he wears red and has since Wrestle Mania 27. Since he started wearing it, he has been a more angry, aggressive man against each of his opponents.

Before that, he wore purple, which he started wearing at last year's SummerSlam. How did that go?  He was not in a WWE championship match that entire time.

And it continues like so. The colorful shirts are for our benefit in order to tell what Cena is going to be like; they are not for the children.

Now, after looking at all of this and not giving up halfway through because it was about Cena, congrats.  I would like to ask all of the the Cena haters to just think more about the points I have made.

I'm not asking to change your mind, rather maybe just ease up on the hate.
