WWE Night of Champions 2011 Is Over; Now WWE Needs to Do Damage Control

Justin EldridgeJun 7, 2018

After reading the results of Night of Champions' three main events (I did not watch), the first thing that came to mind was, "What is WWE going to do now to fix this?"

While the three main event matches may have been good to great matches to watch, the only one to create some interest in me to watch this week was Mark Henry capturing his first world title.

After berating the fans with a great promo, which we all deserved (myself included) and stating that nobody believed he could do it, I for one am very intrigued to see how his title reign goes. I hope that WWE keeps the strap on him for at least three months. Mark Henry has been extremely impressive with his work at promos lately and looking back, I wish that WWE had pulled the trigger on this character change awhile ago.

John Cena going over Alberto Del Rio was the absolute last thing they needed to do last night to Del Rio.

All the hard work he did in the ring while holding the championship was completely undone by Cena burying him, and then going over last night leaves no credible heels on the brand to challenge for the belt as the Miz and R-Truth are going for the tag belts. Unless Del Rio regains at the next PPV, in my mind, WWE really dropped the ball on this one. Cena does not need to have the title for ratings to be high. Put him in a good feud without the championship at stake and watch as the ratings probably drop for a bit, but as stars are being built around Cena and put over by Cena, they will only go up from there.

Lastly, Triple H going over CM Punk was, again, the wrong call, in my book. Yes, if Punk won, then Triple H would have had to step down as COO. But then again, he is COO and can do whatever he wants.

It would have been a bit of a rehashing of the old Vince storyline, but Triple H, Kevin Nash and John Laurinaitis could have been secretly recruiting other wrestlers on the down low in an effort to create a new Kliq. This is just throwing a storyline together in a few seconds. Sure, some professional writers could come up with something like this or better. I have high hopes for this storyline even after last night, and I sure hope it doesn't involve Punk and Triple H teaming up.

I welcome any criticisms of what I have written here, and I encourage your own ideas on what could have played out. As I've stated in other articles, these are only my opinions, and I fully welcome yours.
