Miles Austin Injury: 5 Replacements for Dallas Cowboys Star
You drafted Miles Austin in your fantasy league, and he single-handedly carried you to victory in Week 2 with his 150-yard, three-touchdown performance.
Then, you got the bad news stating that he injured his hamstring and could be out until the bye week.
Don't worry, you aren't the only person in this boat.
Your team will make it through, and if it doesn't, there is always next year.
Thankfully, Bleacher Report is here to help you pick up five waiver wire guys who could step up and fill the void left by Miles Austin in Week 3.
David Nelson (Buffalo Bills)
1 of 5You probably weren't too familiar with the Buffalo Bills offense before the past two weeks, but they are surely on your radar now.
David Nelson had a huge Week 2 against the Oakland Raiders. He hauled in 10 passes for 83 yards with a touchdown. He was targeted 13 times in the game, only one less target than No. 1 receiver Steve Johnson.
According to ESPN, he was only owned in 0.6 percent of leagues heading into this week.
He likely earned himself some more playing time with his big-time performance and game-winning touchdown this past week, especially if Roscoe Parrish's ankle injury limits him.
Jabar Gaffney (Washington Redskins)
2 of 5Rex Grossman and the Washington Redskins offense has come alive this season, in large part due to the acquisition of wide receiver Jabar Gaffney.
Through two games, Gaffney has recorded eight catches for 116 yards and a touchdown.
He is the No. 2 receiver in Washington, opposite of Santana Moss, and is bound to get plenty of looks against the Dallas Cowboys next week.
According to ESPN, he is owned in just five percent of leagues, so he should be available in your league.
Gaffney doesn't have explosive potential, but something along the lines of five catches, 60 yards and a touchdown is not out of the question.
Jerome Simpson (Cincinnati Bengals)
3 of 5Jerome Simpson is the safest pick of these five players, as he is the No. 1 receiver for the Cincinnati Bengals.
Simpson may already be on another team's roster though, as ESPN indicates that he is owned in 48 percent of fantasy leagues.
The team has A.J. Green, but Simpson is the real threat through the air, and is the most likely receiver to come up with a big day.
In Week 2, Simpson hauled in four catches for 136 yards, but has yet to grab a touchdown this season.
If he can break through with a touchdown, he should put up big fantasy numbers. Simpson plays the San Francisco 49ers this week, who were just torched by Tony Romo and the Dallas Cowboys. Miles Austin had a field day, and the 49ers struggled to cover any receiver the Cowboys put on the field.
Look for a big day out of Simpson, who should finally breakthrough with a touchdown next week.
Emmanuel Sanders (Pittsburgh Steelers)
4 of 5If you're looking for the home run threat, Emmanuel Sanders is your guy.
You're either going to get a ton of production out of Sanders, or nothing at all.
He only has four catches for 66 yards and a touchdown on the season, but he is extremely explosive and was a popular pick as a sleeper prior to the season.
He is currently owned in 7.5 percent of ESPN leagues and will likely be available, but he is by far the riskiest play of the week. He is currently splitting snaps as the slot receiver with Antonio Brown, and will need a big play to put up a worthwhile fantasy score.
The bright side for Sanders is that the team is facing the dreadful Indianapolis Colts, and Sanders could burn the defense with his incredible speed and quickness.
Jesse Holley (Dallas Cowboys)
5 of 5If you want to pick up what could be Miles Austin's replacement in the starting lineup for this coming week against the Washington Redskins, you want to acquire former UNC basketball and football player Jesse Holley.
Holley showed well after catching his first ever pass in the NFL after Austin left the game. He picked up three catches for 96 yards and was just a half yard short of picking up his first ever NFL touchdown.
No one really knows exactly what to expect from Holley though, so that makes the acquisition a bit of a risk.
Another area of concern is Tony Romo's ribs. It remains to be seen how Romo's rib injury will affect him next week against what has been an impressive Redskins defense.
If you acquire Holley, you should tame expectations, as there is a reason he was owned in zero ESPN leagues prior to this week.
