2012 NFL Mock Draft: Where Will Alshon Jeffery End Up?

John RozumJun 7, 2018

He's one of the top WRs coming into the 2012 NFL Draft, is an absolute beast on the field and dominates even with a shaky QB under center.

South Carolina's Alshon Jeffery will be a valuable addition to any NFL franchise seeking a WR however, only those drafting in the Top 10 will have a shot at picking him.

Make no mistake about it, Jeffery will be a Top 10 pick, the only question is where will he go?

The answer may come as a surprise to some of you, but it is an area of need for this NFL franchise.

The Carolina Panthers.

In the event of rookie QB Cam Newton shredding NFL defenses for over 400 yards in each of his first two games, the only real receiving threat is veteran Steve Smith.

Yes, he does have two solid TEs in Jeremy Shockey and Greg Olsen, but the need of another stud WR is crucial to the continuing success of this offense.

With that in mind, the Carolina Panthers will pick Alshon Jeffery, WR from South Carolina in the 2012 NFL Draft.

He is a great complement to Smith, and with his 6'4" 230 pound frame, Jeffery will be able to out leap any DB in the league.

As a freshman with the Gamecocks in 2009, Jeffery led the team with 76 receptions for 763 yards and scored six TDs.

The following season Jeffery dominated even more.

He once again led South Carolina in receiving with 88 catches for 1,517 yards, including nine TDs which ultimately earned him a first-team All-SEC selection as a sophomore in 2010.

Obviously more of the same is expected of him in 2011, and three games into his junior campaign Alshon has compiled 212 yards on 12 nabs, including one TD.

Not to mention his Gamecocks are ranked No. 10 in the country, 3-0 (1-0 in the SEC) and are poised to make another run at the SEC title.

The way Newton is playing right now is pretty phenomenal for a rookie with only one truly established receiving threat.

Add in Jeffery and the Carolina Panthers offense in 2012 will be virtually unstoppable.

Also, he would be a hometown favorite (yes I know the Panthers are actually in North Carolina), but keeping him in the Carolina's region will only attract more fans and the Panthers fan base will have that much more of a vest interest in the franchise.

It's a win-win-win situation (team, fans, business aspect).
